2011 Chevy help

Vehicle = 2011 2500HD D/A 4 wd

Problem = On a cold (below 50 or so) morning the outside temp guage reads correct, if you then stop for anywhere from 1 minute to a couple of hours, and the temp. outside warms up considerably, when you start the truck it still reads the old/cold temp. It will stay at that temp until you get to running at highway speeds, (over 45 or so) and then it will eventually move up to the right temp.

Example while in Wyoming, temp one morning was 37. Went hunting and got back in the truck a few hours later. The outside temp had warmed up considerably, but because we were way back on the ranch and driving slow the guage was not showing the correct temp. The problem was, I wanted to turn the A/C on, but because the guage was showing so cold, the A/C would not come on. Hope you can understand that.

Another issue with the dash information is the tire pressure readouts. They show I have between 65 & 70 psi in my tires, but when checked with a manual guage, they have 50 psi in them.

Don't know Jeff, but we have similar issues with the outside temp readout on our durango from time to time and we just passed the mileage for our 3 year 36000 bumper to bumper on the way home from Wyoming. Had readings of 45 in Wyoming our last day there when I knew the temp had climbed over 70, it corrected after we got on the highway. Figured it might have had something to do with the sensor, has never had any effect on our ac/climate control system though.

Gonna be real interested in hearing Shaun's answer on this one.

I had to do a little digging in the service manual to find this, knew it'd be hard to explain all the parameters on what effects the temperature reading. Here's what it says:

The ambient air temperature sensor mounts underhood and can be affected by city traffic, by idling, and by restarting a hot engine. Therefore, the HVAC control module filters the value of the ambient air temperature sensor for temperature display. The ambient air temperature value is updated under the following conditions:

Engine coolant temperature is less than the ambient air temperature, at start up.

Displays real-time temperature

Sensor reading is less than the last displayed value, at start up

Displays real-time temperature

At start up with the engine off more than 2 ½ hours

Displays real-time temperature

At start up with the engine off less than 2 ½ hours

Displays last stored temperature

OAT value decreasing.

Updates OAT temperature from last stored temperature at a weight factor of 0.25.

Vehicle speed less than 16 km/h (10 mph) and OAT value is increasing.

Displays last stored temperature. OAT does not update

Vehicle speed greater than 16 km/h (10 mph) and less than 137 km/h (85.6 mph) for atleast 5 minutes and OAT value is increasing.

Updates OAT temperature from last stored temperature at a weight factor of 0.01953125

Vehicle speed greater than 137 km/h (85.6 mph)

Updates OAT temperature from last stored temperature at a weight factor of 0.01953125

The scan tool has the ability to update the displayed ambient air temperature. To update the ambient air temperature display on the HVAC control module, perform the following procedure: Turn ON the ignition. Simultaneously press the A/C and Recirc switches for 5 seconds.

William I'm sure the Dodge's do this with similar parameters. Might say in your owners manual on how to manually update the temperature reading by pressing a couple buttons. I know my buddy has a 2010 F150, I noticed the same thing. We went duck hunting in late September, it was 25 when we got there at 6am, when we got back out to the truck at 11am it was pushing 70, lots of back road driving before we hit the highway. The temperature didn't change until we got up to speed.

Wow. So much for an easy explanation, huh, or eh. But what I am gathering from that is it is operating the way it was designed and there is not a problem with it. The last paragraph on how to reset it, gives me the info I need, I reckon. Thank you.

My 2006 is not like this. It reads the accurate temp. regardless of driving conditions. Progress, I guess.:p

Thanks man, at least I know now.
