Strut10
I've posted before about my daughter's Vangaurd Compact .308 Win printing honest-to-goodness 1/4" 3-shot groups at 100 yards with regularity. This morning I took my sister's new Vanguard .300 Win Mag to the range on my way to work. Wanted to see how it shot. It put 3 Federal Power Shok 180 grainers into a .550" group!!! I'm impressed. The Weatherby/Howa has got to be one of, if not the best value in rifles going.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Are those the $299 rifles? That is some very impressive shooting and if at that price that is absolutely outstanding.
Strut10
Are those the $299 rifles? That is some very impressive shooting and if at that price that is absolutely outstanding. The $299 Weatherbys advertised are shotguns. They had been doing these rifles for $399. It's a plastic-stocked 24" barrel gun. Funny thing is........I just got a Christensen Arms flyer in the mail the other day. Their Carbon One Custom is guaranteed to shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Of course they want $4295 for one of them, too. I think I'll be happy to pay 1/10 of that for a Vanguard and just assume that it'll probably shoot 1/2" groups or very darned near it. wtnhunt
Thanks for the report Don. New rifle is not in my budget anytime in the foreseeable future due to some unexpected expenses, however I will definitely remember your report when I do start looking to add another. JJL
I agree 100% Don. My wife and daughter have the same 308 and it's a shooter. They're not the most experienced shooters, however, a 20 round group at 100 yards is seldom above 2". That's pretty good. And the guns are affordable. Love the Weatherby's..........................thanks Roy.
hunterbobb
A 2" 20 round group from inexperienced shooters is better than pretty good. With that many shots you would expect at least three or four flyers. Plus I think the shooters must be better than inexperienced to accopmplish a feat like that. I think your being modest. :gun2:
stevebeilgard
wetherbee's are hard to beat. i had a 300 german made that shot the same. trouble is it killed at both ends. lol
Leo
The Vanguards are a great rifle value. If you don't like the plastic stocked version than buy a Bell and Carlson medalist stock for it later
redkneck
My Vanguard is a great shooter too. Only thing I dont like is the safety is super easy to bump off, I need to have it looked at.
Shaun_300
I've heard lots of good things about this gun, sounds like a great rifle for the price tag it wears.
Strut10
Great deal. Yep. Here's what Sis's gun looks like. Not the fanciest. But I'll sacrifice fancy for functional every time.
wtnhunt
Great deal. Yep. Here's what Sis's gun looks like. Not the fanciest. But I'll sacrifice fancy for functional every time. Yep Don, functional is what it is about in the woods. Hard to see the scratches and dings in those synthetic stocks, not that it matters. Old synthetic adl of mine has been around a while and a been few places far away from home and still is in great shape, and still kills critters dead. Funny thing is my oldest has quit using her browning, which had pretty wood, to hunt with my adl in .270 every chance she gets, kids. lol. One of those weatherby's in a .30 of some sort will likely be on my list in the future.
