Newarcher
Sorry for laughing but there really isn't much debate. I mean the WhiteSnake guy is good, don't get me wrong....but it's one thing to beat on a drum like you are killing it and another thing to tell a story with it. Neil Pert takes the award...in fact they should just name the award for Neil Pert and give others a chance to try to win it. I saw this guy live and he was bouncing the sticks off the drum in unison and caught them behind his head and started drumming blind on the drums behind him. Amazing. Newarcher
They are both good....but man. I was side stage at the Omni in Atlanta and saw Rush there. While Geddy Lee and the other guy went back stage and sat on the stairs during a break (smoking something, I'm just sayin) Neil Pert did what had to be a 20 minute or longer drum solo that was just amazing. Check out all the stuff on this link http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Neil_Peart.html If you just need a drum solo http://www.drummerworld.com/m3u/neilpeartsolo.m3u

Nothing like what thoe guys could get out of those Slingerland and Rogers small kits. http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Gene_Krupa.html http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/louiebellson69hudson.html Edited November 25, 2010 by ruttinbuc I had more to add ...geesh! I guess its Niel Peart for me. Tito Puente would be a really close second, although not technically not a "drummer".
patrickwest8
How do you think, how many years needed for such level of playing?
Tominator
never heard of neil pert..but he did learn the twin foot pedal from tommy...lol Holy Sugar! You've never heard of Neil Peart???????? Rush. Might want to watch some of him Martin. Buddy Rich was awfully good too, but he wasn't really associated with any band per se, I don't think. I remember Johnny Carson used to have him on every now and then.

ruttinbuc
How do you think, how many years needed for such level of playing? The answer is in how much you want to learn to play and develop your talent. There is a lot to learn. There is no real answer. Holy Sugar! You've never heard of Neil Peart???????? Rush. Might want to watch some of him Martin. Buddy Rich was awfully good too, but he wasn't really associated with any band per se, I don't think. I remember Johnny Carson used to have him on every now and then. Buddy Rich was the leader of the Buddy Rich Band and played with many others as a feature sit in. Wasn't unusual in those days to have musicians sitting in. Rare today at the professional level. Johnny Carson was an excellent drummer himself. Strut10
Did not get to see The Who until after his death. But my vote goes to Keith Moon. Don't like Rush. But give Peart credit where much is due. Also like Clive Burr and Nicko McBrain a lot.

craig mack
Seen Rush twice. Neil Peart hands down is the best I've seen. They played 2112 in its entirety. Great show

Were you in the audience at this show? http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/genekrupasingsingsing.html :clown: The Guess Who...Great Band! The drumming thing is more complex than a lot of people realize. Good ones are a dime a dozen. Great ones are rare. From heavy metal bangers to the most intricate and stylized jazz percussionist.
