Becoming a Tradition

Well for two years in a row now I have killed a deer on Thanksgiving Day with my Father-in-law. This Thanksgiving I was going to a stand that hadnt been hunted any because the stands owner had some kind of surgery and couldnt climb into it, so I had permission to go to the stand and it was a short but action packed morning. I get settled into the stand at 7:15 with an overcast sky it was still fairly dark to complete calm and stillness of the woods except for the turkeys reminding me of what day it was on the roost about 200 yards away. 5 mins into the hunt I hear footsteps in the hardwoods in front of me but I cant see anything so I get out my bone collector flextone and grunt at the sound. The sound stops and I didnt hear it again. 10 mins later all of the calm and quietness of the woods is interrupeted with the sound of leaves sticks and horns crashing together and my heart starts to pound. I begin grunting and snort-wheezing at the bucks out of my sight in the thick woods and call in a spike. Now on this trip I had made my mind up I hadnt killed a deer year all year much less seen one so if it was brown it was down, but hearing the buck fight made me pass up the spike. 5 mins after the fight ends I hear a snort-wheeze and I return with my own snort-wheeze and grunts to have the winner of the fight come in on a string 40 yards in front of me. He couldnt handle the lead I gave with with my 7mm Mag and 30 mins after I sat down in the stand I climbed out to claim my deer. It was a great hunt I felt like I was in a hunting show because those kind of sequences dont happen all the of the time. Probably going to do a European mount on the deer I didnt think he was big enough to mount (plus Im broke with Christmas coming up).
