stringpicker
Just curious, what time do you guys usually pack it in during an afternoon hunt? Do you leave right at legal shooting light, or do you wait till it gets real dark? I realize that there are a few different variables, but in general what do you normally do and your reasons why. I was just thinking about this as I walked out of the woods tonight and was just curious.
redkneck
Usually I bowhunt the woods and am out of the stand before the end of legal limit. Field hunting just gotta watch the clock, but usually not a problem, I try to leave before I get into having to compromise on that.
jcot2773
Depends, the clock can say one thing, but the sun can say another. The clock can still say legal time but my pins aren't lit enough to shoot. Why sit when I can't see to shoot?
magnatecsteve
I REALLY dont like shooting deer right on the verge of dark, just too many things to go wrong...so if I feel that nothing is gonna happen, Ill leave a little before the final light is faded. But... if there are deer around me, Ill wait for them to move on before I get down. Once I was in stand for nearly an hour because I didnt want to educate the buck that was nearby. Really not a good thing to be 20 plus ft up a tree in pitch black though.
Strut10
I quit at or before the closing bell, depending on light conditions. If there are deer around, I have stayed in the tree an hour past quitting time so I could leave un-noticed.
ruttinbuc
I go right to last legal light most times. Especially if there are deer in view. You never know when one will show up close. Sometimes you know nothing is going to happen so I split early. wtnhunt
Depends where I am at and conditions, field edges I will start climbing down when legal shooting light ends, that is if there is nothing around. Have been stuck in the stand several times well past legal shooting light end. Last year I was in the stand about an hour past legal shooting light end, had deer all over me and had to have the wife bump them out of our field so I could get down. Woods I am usually out a few minutes before legal shooting light ends.
hoosierhunter
I stay past legal shooting light almost everytime. Also I try to not get down until 10 minutes after my last deer went through. I did get stuck on stand this year for about 45 minutes on stand b/c deer just kept coming. At that point I actually played a voice mail on speakerphone to get them out of there b/c they weren't moving.

Ravin R10 man
Wardens here say that if you are caught walking out after legal shooting time with uncased weapon in your hands you are illegal
hoosierhunter
Wardens here say that if you are caught walking out after legal shooting time with uncased weapon in your hands you are illegal then write me a ticket and about every other hunter I know as well. BTW I killed my buck this year 11 minutes before end of legal shooting light.
