hangunnr
Buddy brought his Remington 1187 slug gun over to me to work on because he's having trigger issues. Pulled the gun apart and found this tag on the Hastings barrel. Wonder how many left the factory with one of these? hangunnr
LETMGROW
I have a Hastings barrel but it was made before the copper solids came out. It didn't shoot them well when I did try them. Wonder why slug is spelled slub?
stcif
I have an older Hastings rifled barrel on my 870. Funny thing is I used the copper solids for a few years until I read somewhere that hastings doesn't recommend them in their barrels. Oh well. As for the word "slub", well they are made in France and maybe they had a hard time spelling slug.
hangunnr
After a little google-fu I found out the caution about the Copper Solid ammo was for ammo produced prior to 1999. Current production ammo is OK to use. FWIW.... hangunnr
LETMGROW
Copper Solid Warning! Good info. Makes you wonder what has changed from 1999 to present ammo. I gave away the Copper Solids I had left, but know the friend I gave them to has a Factory Remington slug barrel.
stcif
I recently read that Hastings went out of business. They made a good product.
hangunnr
A little info on Hastings. http://www.hastingsbarrels.com/ It looks like some are still available. CR
LETMGROW
Speaking of Hastings Barrels My Hastings barrel is the older style which has the scope mount ahead of the receiver. This requires a scout type scope with a very long eye relief. At one time Hastings made a conversion kit to mount a cantilever mount to the barrel so you could use a standard eye relief scope. I have never been able to find one. If anyone knows where I might get my hands on one, I would appreciate knowing about it. Lynn
hangunnr
I don't believe I've ever come across one of the adapters you're speaking of . Nothing wrong with a scout type mount. You may be able to utilize a handgun scope which will give you the option of a variable magnification scope. In reference to an earlier statement about the Copper Solids changing or something of that order. They did change the bullet design from an almost cylindrical shape with 2 cross slots cut across a hollow cavity producing 4 petals to a more conventional bullet shape with 6 petals. I don't remember exactly when that change was made though. Reading between the lines may indicate somewhere around 1999. hangunnr
LETMGROW
Actually I had a handgun scope on the hastings barrel the last time I used it. I since changed to a factory cantilever barrel and haven't used the Hastings at all. I don't use the shotgun for hunting now at all. The areas I used to go to in our state are now allowing rifle use. The Hastings barrel was very accurate and I liked it, but it was awkward to handle a long gun with such a long eye relief. I just thought if I could find the conversion kit it would be neat to have it. Lynn
