well rifle season in Wisconsin has came to a end as of yesterday, so i was wondering if there are any Wisconsin bow hunters on here that have had any luck with late season bow? I have hunted late season in the past and have failed to see any deer. Its been 2 yrs since ive went out for late season bow and well im just not ready to pack my gear away for the year. So i was just wondering if anyone has had any Wisconsin late season bow success and if so is there any tips or pointers you'd like to share?

I usually don't go out for late season bow, never had any luck anyway. I don't about where you hunt, but where I hunt there is now a muzzle-loader season until the 8th then on the 9th through 14th there is a doe only gun season, and then the 24th through january 9th there is another earn-a-buck season, so pretty much if I were to go bowhunting i'd be wearing blaze orange anyway.

Normally I tend to pack it in after gun season. Three months of not shooting anything and barely seeing anything worth shooting kinda gets old after a while. I probably will go out this year though, we got some beans that the deer are hitting hard so Ill try to get a doe for some meat and maybe with a little luck a nice buck will step out.

For the first time in my life I'm going to attempt late season bow hunting. Most years I freeze my butt sitting on a bucket fishing but I have an extra doe tag to fill still and figured I'd give hunting another shot. I'm guessing at this time food sources will be the number one thing for deer so that is what I'm going to hunt over. We'll see what happens.

I let the woods calm for this week then hit those spots that had less pressure with the muzzleloader and bow. Food and cover is critical this time of year. The colder/more snow the better. Deer will feed before dark if it is cold. I seldom hunt the mornings as the deer are very nervous after gun season and easily alarmed. A warm late season will bring fewer deer sightings during hunting hours. Good Luck.

I hunt in the southern part of the UP and food sources are the best bet late season!

We've had only a few mature bucks in our sights over the years but does are plentiful. I agree that evenings appear to be best with most sightings at last light.

The bucks are hungry and run down after the rut so they look for food sources but do so under low light and no light conditions (in my experience).

We have seen some dandy bucks late season so it is worth a shot. One year I shot a nice 8pt on December 29th. When my tracking assistant found the deer, it had no antlers :hammer2:. We ended up backtracking and finding the left side antler that night but I did not find the right side until spring thaw.

Good luck!
