huntinsonovagun
I'm in the market for a new bolt action rifle. I have a budget of roughly $400. I'm most interested in an accurate gun that will shoot MOA. Looks aren't important. Any thoughts?
wtnhunt
Don't know if your wal mart carries guns, but may check there and see if they carry model 700's. That would be my first choice, but they may be a bit higher than $400 depending on the models they carry. Would also check savage model 10's, they can be found pretty reasonably and are usually pretty accurate rifles. Hearing good things about the weatherby vanguards, Strut10 here has also had real good things to say about them.
DropTine49
Weatherby Vanguard $399.99 guaranteed at least 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards,.
okiedog
I was interested in a Vanguard until I found they only make them in RH bolt. For the money they sound like a great gun.

Vanguards are great, I shoot one, never shot the Savage but once, but have always heard they have some of the best barrels for the $. m gardner
I've got a couple of TC Venture bolt guns that were around $400.00 after rebate. The rebate ends today though. They shoot very well and have a great trigger. Here's a target from the 300 win mag. I just shot an elk at 322 yards with it too. The 270 win shoots under MOA too but the 300 likes to shoot one hole groups.Mark

If you are a righty, the Vanguard is a can't-go-wrong deal. For the money or not, they are a superb rifle.
huntinsonovagun
I ended up with the Venture. I wasn't even looking at those, but I was impressed enough to buy one. It was close with the Vanguard, which I still wouldn't hesitate to buy. Got it in .270. Now its time to shop for glass. ;~)

For glass, big fan of nikon's here, hard to beat them dollar for dollar.
