ruttinbuc
Well, I am done for awhile. another bitter cold day. I sat until 9 this morning huddled in a fresh blow down overlooking the other end of the corn field. The big branches blocked a lot of the returning wind. I watched a fox scamper from one field island to the other looking for something to eat. A little too far to take him out of his misery. I went back this afternoon to the same spot and had a lone deer appear at the edge of the wide hedgerow right at dark. I thought maybe it was a buck. Upon further review it was antlerless. I am hoping the weather changes some. It certainly has been a test keeping comfortable in the -4 degree wind chill. If I have to give a thumbs up for anything it would be my Game Hide Hunter Hide parka and bibs along with my La Crosse Ice King boots. I bought the Game Hide outfit at Dicks Sporting goods last year at a great after the holidays discount. The boots I had forever and they still do the job. The hand muff along with the fleece beanie Ozarkgal (Lori) got me last year showed up big time also.
fly
Nice thread Mike, thanks for sharing. Hey NJ bear hunting anti's (and any other state for that matter), I got something for ya. Bear! It's what's for dinner.
wtnhunt
Good luck when you get back out Mike. Weather here has been pretty miserable as well. Wind chills down around 0 had me remembering why I bought the boot blankets when I went out the other afternoon with only 400 gram thinsulate boots. lol. ruttinbuc
Hey that is a nice bear you got with your pistol there, Frank. where did you find that one? I'd of been happy just seeing a patch of black in the woods, lol. Hopefully the state will implement a bear hunt in milder weather in the future. Those boot blankets are nice William. I have a pair of the Arctic Shield insulators. They work pretty well with my lighter boots as long as i put them on before the feet get chilled. ruttinbuc
Those are a couple of great bow bears, Gary! I hope NJ puts in a bow hunt for the bruins, but I may be hoping for too much. I went with the ML yesterday afternoon. It was a pleasant sit without the wind and the temperature a bit more tolerable. I went to the state piece where I saw the young bucks last week. No deer came from the thickets or heavy hedge rows as in the past. I have a feeling the spot was driven out as the only deer I saw came out of the little wood islands. From there they can see it all. Unapproachable for sure. buckee
We've got more geese, ducks and trumpeter swans here this year than I have ever seen. I'll have to get out and get some pictures for you. I hope you find a nice bear and a nice deer Mike. Good way to top off the season. ruttinbuc
hang in there, there is a giant in your future. Thanks Mike, I hope so. We've got more geese, ducks and trumpeter swans here this year than I have ever seen. I'll have to get out and get some pictures for you. I hope you find a nice bear and a nice deer Mike. Good way to top off the season. Don't see the trumpeters here much. I saw a pair on the river a couple months ago, but couldn't get a picture. I do have a resident Blue Heron still fishing the trout out of the stream. It don't hang out long when I go to the widow to get a picture. He's ascared of me! The bear season was only for the week coinciding with 6 day buck firearm, Steve. We hope to have its own season in place in the future. I was thinking of taking another doe if the situation presents itself. I want to make sausage and other venison delights. in the off time.
