92xj
all that you know. 01 Silverado, 2500HD LS, CrewShortBed, 6.0-Auto, 163k I dont really want this truck, but the money seems to be right and I am in the market. Not exactly to motivated to purchase right now, was thinking more along the lines in March or April, but if this is a screaming deal on this truck, then I might just do it. Guess in this case I don't know anything! I suggest you take the truck to a shop you trust and have them look it over. Good truck in it's day, but it is 10 years old. Great deal? Why? What is wrong with it the seller wants to sell it cheap? If you don't really want it why spend the money? More ??? than answers, huh? 92xj
I know and trust the seller. Don't have a shop I trust here. I do all my own work so I would look it over to satisfy myself. I really dont want to spend the money right now and would rather save for the next couple of months to purchase a Tundra; this was just a random thought that was presented to me this evening. I seriously doubt I would purchase this truck, but you never know when the money is right it makes it easier to purchase. Buying this would be a ton cheaper than the Tundra that I want but I know I would most likely regret not getting exactly what I want. LETMGROW
Guess at this point I'd sleep on it.
Shaun_300
They are a good truck, that one is getting up there in mileage but if it's been well maintained and the body is in good shape, may not be a bad thing to snag up. These things are pigs on gas, so be prepared. But you have the power and torque of a 6.0L that'll pull about anything you put behind it. This will have the 4L80 transmission in it which is a very good, reliable transmission. 14 bolt rear end with 4:10 gears, again, tough as nails. The weak points in these trucks are inner tierods, exhaust manifold bolts, waterpump gaskets, that's about it. I know for sure you'd much rather work on this truck than a tundra! Let us know what you decide Ben.
wtnhunt
That high a mileage I would probably skip it if it were me Ben, even if it were a deal almost too good to pass up. Our 98 is getting close to that mileage and we are likely gonna sell it soon. We have not really had any serious problems with it, but don't want to wait until we do and that is why we are likely gonna be in the market for something a bit newer and something with 4 doors this coming spring ourselves. We are gonna need easier access to the back seat anyway. lol. A downside to the 3/4 ton chevy we own is that it is geared low and gets pretty poor mpg's no matter how we drive it(13 is the best highway mpg we have ever managed to get with it), guess the flipside of that is that it does not take too much of a hit when I pull a trailer loaded with hay or a tractor(gets as good as 11 mpg pulling 6000 lbs of hay on a 16 ft tandem axle trailer). Don't know about the 6.0 or the 2001 model, sure there were options for different gear ratios.
92xj
Yeah, that whole gas mileage thing is no good. I doubt I will jump on this with those miles and the suggestions here and just wait for the Tundra that I want to show up. I will hopefully be able to keep my pickup I have now and use that as a daily driver to work and just drive the new truck on the weekends and long distance hunts. My little truck gets 21-25 mpg so it will be hard dropping down to under 15. All my buddies back home with Tundras are getting 15-18 so that would not be as bad as 10-14 with this truck. Thanks for the personal accounts and opinions guys.
LETMGROW
Don't blame us---Please So when you realize you let this bargain slip through your fingers and figure out you could have resold the truck for a huge profit you aren't going to hate us all. Right? LOL Lynn
