Shaun_300
Just wanted to let everyone know that a few of us are planning to get together to go ice fishing for a day, maybe part of another day up at my grandma's. RangerClay, Muff and myself did this a couple years ago and had a blast! Hoping to do this again this year sometime. Dates still to be determined when we know how many is coming when people can get off at the same time. We'll be fishing on Golden Lake, ON. This is about 2 - 2 1/2 hours from the Canada/US border at Thousand Islands, north end of I-81. Hope to get a few new people up this year to join in on the fun! Thought I'd throw this out early so everyone is aware of it.

LETMGROW
I'm going to mention this to Marc. We need to get our butts down to get our enhanced driver's licenses to aid getting across the border anyway. We are about 3 hours away. Do they sell beer in Canada? Lynn
Shaun_300
I don't think an enhanced drivers licence will do you much good in Canada. You need your passport to get across the border by air or land now, which sucks! I don't have my passport yet, so I need to get mine before I can enter the US again. Sure hope everyone can make it. Would be nice to meet you and Marc, Lynn! No beer in Canada! J/K. It is probably twice the price as yours though.
LETMGROW
They are accepting the enhanced driver's license as a passport. At least for now. You have to go through a background check etc. but it is much cheaper and quicker. When it comes to the beer, price is no object.:surrender: Marc and I went to an ice fishing show downstate yesterday. Honestly didn't buy a thing. Guess we are more than well equipped. We just bought a new Frabill Guardian shelter and a Jiffy STX Pro 10" auger within the last couple weeks.
RangerClay
Do they sell beer in Canada? Lynn LMAO! I have my enhanced license. If you have the necessary proof of who you are, you have it in about a week. Don't worry about fancy fishing garb Lynn. The only thing that Shaun uses is a tree branch stuck in the snow. No lie. Shaun_300
Ken asked me today if we were planning on doing it this year, sounds like he wants to try and make it up for the fun!
RangerClay
We need to check with Joe. His weekend work schedule will be important.
Shaun_300
Gonna try and get out on Golden Lake tomorrow, we'll see how much ice there is, might even put the shack out over the weekend. I know there's 9 or 10 inches on the Ottawa River where there's barely any current. Golden Lake has no current whatsoever so I imagine there will be at least 9 inches. Shaun_300
Hopefully the dates can line up with everyone. We could shoot for late February or early March. I think we had ours last time in early March eh guys? We could do it in January but chances are it'd be much colder than March. Often it's in the 20s in early March, makes it a lot nicer standing out on the ice than when it's in the -20s. We do have a new insulated shack with a woodstove, but we spent most of our time outside watching the lines and laughing at eachother running for the flags. Never got out on the lake, turns out they got more snow up there right after it froze up, so even though it's been down as cold as -5 to -10 a few nights, many nights between 0 and 5, there's still only 2 inches of ice on the lake, the snow is like a big blanket of insulation. Hoping to get a wicked wind to blow some of it away and hopefully it'll start freezing quicker.

Shaun_300
Sure hope to have a good turnout for this, doesn't matter to me though. Whoever can make it great, if not, understandable! Just wanted to post a link to where you'd be staying the night. Awesome place. Pool tables, bar, good food, great owners and staff, reasonable rates, couldn't ask for a better place. http://www.sandsongoldenlake.com/index.php
