Shaun_300
Lynn, smart a.... rear. :D That's pretty crazy about the tierod ends, let me guess, no grease fittings in them? GM has gradually gone away from grease fittings and now on a new 4x4 truck (07+) There is only 2 grease fittings on the whole truck compared to the 00-07 classics that had 11. Only places are the outer tierod ends. Mind you with the rack and pinion in the new 4x4 trucks 5 would be eliminated, but they don't even put them in the ball joints! We've been seeing a lot of upper ball joints going in the newer style trucks and probably due to that reason. It's ridiculous! And of course you can't buy the ball joint separate, you gotta buy the whole $365 upper control arm. I shake my head at a lot of the stupid designs car manufactures are coming up with nowadays when it comes to stuff like that. William, usually a multifunction (or multi as they called it) switch is the turn signal switch, Usually they do a number of things from wipers, washers, lights, signals, etc so they call them a multifunction switch. It could have been the switch, but if I was the tech working on it I would have put a module in it before a switch. Mike, usually a check engine light is not a glitch. There are hundreds of different codes that could set that light off. Chances are if it's not running funny or drinking the gas more than usual it's probably a emission component related issue flagging the light. Most common thing is the vent solenoids sticking on them. There's an updated replacement procedure to change them and run a long 5/8" hose up above the transfer case for the solenoid filter to help it from failing again. Could also be the fuel tank pressure sensor shorted. Those are the two common things.

LETMGROW
Now that I have that settled. We don't know where many of the parts put on the cars we buy are actually made. Made in USA? Probably not. The manufacturers would lead you to believe this , but in my lowly opinion I think the vehicles you buy today are made from parts produced from anywhere and everywhere. With wages the way they are here you can't really blame GM, Ford or Chrysler from having parts made offshore. Since Chrysler teamed with Daimler I have seen some things I haven't liked in the overall quality of the completed vehicle. Now they are teaming up with Fiat. What is next? I couldn't agree more that the parent Mfg. is responsible for quality control. Think they really care? Don't kid yourself. Bottom line and shove it to the unknowing consumer is all they care about. $$$$$ is the underlying factor. The fact our govt. got involved sure wasn't a benefit. They couldn't manage a 1 car funeral. Yes, I drive USA built vehicles, but I don't condone anybody for buying something built anywhere else. Maybe they they're smarter than I. Whoops, Shaun already said I was smart. LOL! Back to the switch, like I said not totally sure what they replaced other than what the ticket said. Have not had a problem with it since(knock on wood). Washi
The cluster on my sister's Avalanche started acting up quite a while ago. She took it in to the dealer and they said it was over mileage so they couldn't do anything unless she paid for it. A while later she got a letter saying that they had extended the coverage on this problem another 10,000 miles but by that time her mileage was above that too. She has just been driving the truck with it not working right. Do you think she just needs to try another dealer?

The dealership I bought this truck from told me the coverage was 80,000 mi. weather this is true or not I couldn't tell you .... Mine only has 48,000 on it .. Shaun or Lynn may be able to shed more light on the guidlines for ya ..
Shaun_300
GM in the US might be different than here about the way they do warranty related things like this, not sure. Each zone has a different DSM (district service manager) and sometimes even they do things a bit different between eachother. Not too sure about some of the politics when it comes to this stuff, everything changes so fast I can't keep track of it. I've changed some clusters that had over 300,000km on them, not sure why it should be any different for any other GM dealer. I'd try a different dealer and see what happens. I would try another dealer first. Also there should be a toll free phone number in the back of your [ or her ] owner's manual for customer service. Give this a try. Explain the mileage difference and you may get some results. Forget the E-Mail approach. More often than not you will get an automated response which will not be to your satisfaction. Note: when you call ,have the 17 digit vin# in hand as well as the current mileage on the vehicle. Lynn
