Not a shed but.....

An awesome find anyway. I was out rabbit hunting yesterday. Went through this patch of briars with small pine trees where I foudn a shed last year. Saw a rabbit but no shot. Anyway I'm crouched in the middle of the briars, taking a break when I look ahead of me and about 25 yards away I see what looks like bone. I stand up and start moving towards it and when I see next to the bone(which were deer legs) I see part of a rack sticking up through the snow! You guys should have seen me running, lol! smirk.gif I was leaping through the middle of these briars! I get there and sure enough I pull out of the snow a neat little 6 point buck. It could be a 7 if I count the one small little sticker point. What is really neat is the right side of the rack is started to palmate a little, thick and flat, it is so cool! I got a photo of it at home so I'll get a photo of it on here soon. I tell you guys finding this was as good as finding a million dollars grin.gif Too bad the buck didn't make it, would have been a neat buck next year.

Re: Not a shed but.....

what? no field photo? lol now post this at my forum, it's boring there! lol

congrats on the find, I found one last year except mine was a 2.5 year old 9 pointer with a 16 inch spread. I still don't know how that buck died, I never was able to find a cause of death. Oh well I got a nice European mount out of him and he now sits on my dresser smile.gif

now post that pic!

Re: Not a shed but.....

Good deal--well, kind of. I think it's kind of bitter-sweet to find deer like that. I would much rather find sheds because there's a good chance the deer that shed them are still alive.

That said, I have 2 or 3 skulls with antlers still attached. One little fork that was killed while in velvet (car I think), one of a huge spike (oxymoron, I know), and another little 6pt that I donated to one of our science teachers.
