njbowhntr
Depends on what you like and want to spend. I have a Remington 870 in 12 gauge and 20 gauge. They both have factory Remington slug rifled barrels. The 12 gauge has a scope on it and the 20 gauge is open sights. My preference is the 20 gauge. Most of my shots are under 60 yards. The 20 does not kick and puts them right on the ground. I shoot Lightfield slugs out of both. A friend shots a NEF single shot 20 gauge bull barrel. He loves it. Dad shoots a Remington 1100 with a rifled slug barrel. He shoots a scope in this gun. I do not remember what slugs he shoots, but 3 touching at 100 yards. cray8705
I have a Mossberg 500 20ga with a rifled slug barrel and a scope on it. I shoot the Winchester supreme sabots (1900 fps). Shooting deer 50-60 yds is no problem, my longest shot was 130 yds, aimed at the top of the back and made a perfect shot. I would really recommend a 20ga over a 12ga because in my opinion they are more accurate and you can shoot farther, same concept as a rifle, its a smaller projectile and there is less drag. Hope this helps..good luck
LETMGROW
I shoot an 1100 remington with a Rem. rifled barrel with a Simmons Pro Diamond 1.5-5 32mm. scope. I use Winchester Supreme Sabot 2 3/4" slugs. Has worked well for me. There are a lot of other good combos out there. Mossberg has some tack drivers, Browning, Marlin, etc. They are all good. Just depends on what you want to spend and what feels good in YOUR hands. Lynn

Buckeyenut
I have several shotguns that I use deer hunting. I have a 12ga Benelli M1 topped with a Leupold which is my favorite. I shoot 1 oz. federal premium barnes xpanders- very accurate, and very little recoil with the Benelli. I also have 2 870's a 12ga and a 20ga- the 12ga has a Bushnell holosight on it and the 20ga has a red dot. I must admit most of the deer I have shot were well within 50 yards, and all of these guns have performed great.
pendog
With the new slug guns and slugs there is no prob (in my opinion) killing deer at 100 yards. Just know the balistics and you will be happy with it.
huntnfish
I use a Mossberg 500 12 ga. with a rifled barrel and Bushnell 2-7x32 shotgun scope. Right now I am using Lightfield's with good results.
Turkeygirl
I got a rifled slug barrel this year to put on my Mossberg 20 ga. Super Bantam...has a Nikon ProStaff scope. Used Hornady SST slugs, they shot pretty well
Tominator
Not much of a shotgun hunter when it comes to deer, but my slug gun is the 870 with a rifled barrel. Off the bench I can make a clover leaf at 70 yards with either Lightfields or Winchester magnums.
muzzy1
Can't go wrong with a rem 870 or 1100..

Bowtech_archer07
I shoot a Mossberg model 500 12 ga with a Simmons 3-9x40 variable scope. 24 in. rifled barrel. Shooting Lightfield slugs 1 inch high at 50, dead on at 100. Love the gun, shoots well and an extremely reasonable price. I got the deer/field combo for around $500. ruttinbuc
All indications and reviews lead to the Savage 220f bolt action slug gun. It is designed after its very popular 110 rifle. I have yet to hear about any issues other than some early problems with the magazine design.
slaw
I live where you can only use shotgun.....the H&R ultra slug hunter in the 20ga is a tack drivin son of a gun.....scoped with a Bushnel dusk and dawn shotgun scope....very affordable too.....try the remington buckhammer slugs, I can consistantly keep them in a 2 inch circle at 50 yards. fly
I use a rem 870 express with tru glo fiber optic sights. It puts all my sabots in a grapefruit at 50 yards. I shot a deer at 100 yards with it years ago and hit the leg. Ended up getting the buck, but that's another story. Good gun for under 300 dollars. I started to investigate and compare 12ga vs. 20ga online a little bit. I was quite surprised to find that the 3" 20ga. chambering is by far the most efficient, particularly with today's modern ammunition. Just my thoughts. matq2gs
I am using the H&R slugger in 20 ga. with the thumbhole stock shooting Hornady SST's in it and it is a tack driver. Sighted in 2 1/2" high at 50 yds dead on at 150 yard. I can cover 3 shots with a 50 cent piece at 50 yards benched up. The only thing is you have to run a brush down the barrel after 7 or 8 shots as the plastic will fowl the rifling in the barrel and it starts to shot a little off. I was using 870 12 ga. and decided to go with the 20 ga. because the slug technolgy is so great. I have shot three with it, 2 dropped in their tracks and the other went 10 yards. The longest shot was 100 yards. Good luck.
00DodgeGuy
I give a vote to the H&R Ultra Slug gun as well....I shoot a 12 ga. with Hornady SSTs and I wouldn't be afraid to put it up against another shotgun. I also shoot a Bushnell scope and absolutely love the gun.
