mike13candace
I work in a place that has a few hunters. So far I know of four nice bucks that have either died or are trying to heal wounds from people who have taken some bad shots. Two eight pointers from archers. One shot at a buck running by him. The second one was shot while the buck was walking fast and the arrow went through the hind quarters. One guy told me the only shot he had was the head and he sqeezed the trigger. Saturday was the last straw. The same hunter that shot an arrow at the running deer said to me.. I had three doe and a nice rack buck come running in. No chance to get ready so I picked up my gun and fired at the buck. I was not happy but I was with my wife at our Christmas party. Not the place to teach him the ethics code. These so-called hunters do not practice shooting archery or gun all year. I told one guy today that I would have been happier if he didn't shoot at either deer. I am sure this isn't the only state with "Idiots"
Adjam5
Yeah that would get me a bit upset also Mike hearing co worker talk so cavalier about wounding deer. Some folks are just casual hunters and just get in the "mode" come season. We however... eat, sleep and breathe this thing called hunting. I know for me it is practice all summer as much as I can to be on target. You owe it to the animal to be as proficient as possible with whatever weapon you choose. Do your best to teach them if you can, and hunt far away from from them until you do.
stevebeilgard
it's the case in every state. some folks who call themselves "hunters" are not. they are shooters, and not good ones at that. they see a wounded animal as no big thing. it's just an animal. i hate it. PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
While hunting last Monday I found a broken horned 5 point buck laying dead. It appeared to have been shot on Saturday. It was a good shot appearing to have double lunged it. It was not laying in a spot hard to find so I believe that someone did not bother to follow up on their shot. That too makes me mad as can be. I have wounded deer myself but spent hours and even a whole day looking for it. And only after following a trail for a mile was I convinced I would not find that animal. ruttinbuc
Makes you wonder for sure, Mike. I'd have a little talk with this guy about what bow hunting is. I put more than a couple of people in their place over the years for doing stuff they were stupid enough to talk about. Some will get the message, unless they are really that stupid. We just had our six day shotgun season here. It really does bring out the worst. For the most part they are one day hunters who have to dust off the gun the day before. Totally amazing at some of the things you hear. I also find dead deer in the woods and realize that people are too lazy or too stupid to look after they shoot. Gun or bow. they have to have no clue with some of the animals i found killed right through the vitals. I guess if they don't fall down they missed. buckee
I wish people would learn how to stop game in there tracks before firing, so they have an ethical shot opportunity. All it takes is a MAAAAaaaaa, or sometimes a few MAAAAaaa's or even a whistle to stop em up. What really gets me going (and my good friends will confirm this..LOL) is when someone says , "I missed" I always say, "What do you mean, you missed", "you lined up on it, and pulled the trigger when you felt comfortable, so how the heck can you say you missed?" ...If you've got the gall to pull the trigger, then you'd better have the brains to ASSUME that you hit it, not missed it. Follow up on all your shots with a good search for your game. Then, and only then, after you've done all you can do, can you walk away and say, "I think maybe I missed".
