223AI Build Update....

It's been about 7 months and I finally recieved my 95% finished rifle from the smith. Chambered in 223 Ackley Improved this rifle weighs in at 17lbs 11oz empty. I havent had a chance other than get a quick 100 zero with it, fireforming 10 Lapua cases. The scope is a US Optics 3.2x17x Tpal in Badger rings sitting a top a 20 moa Badger base, the triger is a Jewell set at 2lbs. Both the scope base and the action have been bedded.

I am still debating with myself on how to finish it off, leaning towards Cerakoting the barreled action green, the flutes and bolt black or I could get black stock skins and have a basic blk/silver look. I talked with my class III dealer about suppressors today and will try to get the ball rolling on getting one after Christmas. If I am lucky I'll have about a 3 month wait on the paperwork involved.

Here are some quick pics as it is now.

Chuck Ross at Ross Precision Gunworks in Ft Worth makes some of the best suppressors I've ever seen. He will custom build one exactly for your application and as far as I know, all of his can be disassembled for easy cleaning so you won't lose the suppression capabilities over time. He'll also walk you through all of the paperwork.

BTW - Very, very nice build!

Anthony, it's really personal preference when it comes to weight, some want to shed every ounce possible but from the ground up I wanted this to be a heavy rilfe. I even chose a steel base when I could have saved a few ounces going with aluminum.:1eye:

I killed this plate at 300yds yesterday with 5 shots into an inch and a half. 75gr Amax and Reloder 15 were used .:gun2:

That looks like alot of fun. Great project.

A buddy of mine and I have been tweeking a pair of 22-250's for almost two years now. They can always be better. One day we were dropping ravens at 500 yds like they were popcans at 50. Great glass makes all the difference. It's amazing how much better your deer rifle will shoot at 300 after spending some time shooting 50-75 grainers at 1000. Practice makes Deader.
