hoosierhunter
As dumb as this sounds it's been a huge hurdle for him to get over. He would retrieve a duck dummy and the dummy with a wing on it, but for his life he wouldn't pick up a dead duck or goose. It's been starting to drive me crazy because he would run or swim out to it and just mouth it and leave it. Last weekend I got a duck out and worked with him one evening and got him excited and him finally did it. Go figure he did it once now it's like get can't get enough of those ducks. Now that duck season is out we are gonna try a goose next!
Alisha
Way to go Hemi! I'm sure you were sooo proud! Our chocolate lab April, made her first retrieve on a black duck this fall and being the dork that I am, I got all teary eyed. :clown:
Jeramie
Im hopeing my new golden will do that this weekend! She is 6-months old (born in July). Im taking her out for her first hunt this weekend. She is retreiving wings and canvas throw bags with duck scent. Hopefully it wont be too much of a big leap. However, I may end up having to buy a fowl dummy to toss for her if she doesnt pick it up.
hoosierhunter
I think it all depends on how much you work him with it on how quick they do it. This was the 5th time he was introduced to dead fowl.

hutchies
Mater picked up on his 1st duck. He tried a goose at the lease and wasn't quite ready for it. I did keep a bunch of wings from last year and have been tying them on with twine to his dummies. I also filled them with duck scent. Keep it up guys they will get it.
