johnf
I've been thinking about a SHTF gun and keep coming back the Sub-2000 to go along with my G-19. I would really like an AR-15 or AK but have no practical use for one. I hunt more with my bow anymore than anything and I've got all the hunting rifles I want, so this would just be for home defence/SHTF. What are some of the pro/cons of this gun for those of you who have them?
Texan_Til_I_Die
I have zero experience with that weapon, but I do have a couple of comments in general. Since this is primarily for home defense, if you do go with a 9mm, I'd highly recommend using some type of frangible ammo to limit the possibility of a stray round going through a wall and hitting someone unintended. My personal preference for a primary home defense weapon is a short barreled shotgun with a cylinder bore. I keep a loaded Springfield Arms 12ga pump. It's got an 18 inch barrel, cylinder bore, and is loaded with high brass #6 shot for the first 3 rounds, then magnum 00 buck for the last 2. I figure in a SHTF moment I might get excited and miss with a handgun or something like that Kel Tec, but that 12 ga should get the job done. johnf
Already have a couple shotguns that would fit that bill.
Grady269
AR Pistol There are several company's making AR pistols, I like the LAR-15 7" barrel from Rock River. They have a round bar stock to use as a cheek rest, I've shot one and it was really fun to shoot and very accurate. Good chance it may be my next purchase, talk about a compact varmint gun for in the truck and it's covered by CCW.
m gardner
I've got a Beretta 92 and a bolt action scout rifle in 30-06 with my G.O.O.D. bag. If the SHTF it's grab and go and never look back. A couple hundred rounds of ammo for each will be plenty (If it is truly horrific I can get more from deceased people that don't need their weapons anymore). If you get shot at enough to need more ammo you'll probably be dead or need more medical attention than what is available. As for home defense I practice shooting through soft cover. If everyone is in one spot and you are defending it, shooting through walls is not an issue. I'm sure anyone coming for you will be doing the same. I'd go with the AK or AR. You will have use for one if things get bad. Find people in your neighborhood to form an alliance with to defend your families and practice. If you look prepared you may be passed by for an easier target. Mark
