Care to take a guess

You ever have one of those seasons where you hunt hard and just can't see to make it work? Well you may have read my post on the big buck I arrowed in November and couldn't find. Then one month later found it with the head sawed off. A pretty frustrating season was in the works. But then a late season success comes out of no where and changes it all. Bagged this bad boy yesterday in freezing rain. I saw about 10 does in the morning and at 2pm this guy comes looking for them. I just love big bucks against the snow covered ground. The tip of his right main beam is busted (I'm thinking it would have added another 4 inches). It'll be a while for the official score, but I'll put the tape to him tomorrow as I butcher. I'm generally within a few inches and this buck should be an easy tape. If you're into guessing give it a shot and the member closest to my unofficial score gets a 10 dollar gift card. My way of saying thanks and Merry Christmas to my RT brothers and sisters. We'll close the Guessing at 6pm Monday December 21st. I'll pm the winner Monday night and ask for an address to send the card to. That way it will get there by Christmas. BTW... Gross score

Wow Frank!!! Was that on public ground or private? Anyhow, im in Marion county now, and its great to see some positive results for some hard earned work! Ive hunted my rear end off this year, including today, and don't have wallhanger on the ground... I really think the rut was late this year, real late, so do you think he was still out cruising, or there may have been a hot doe in the area? After seeing a spotted fawn on October 30th, i have a suspicion that there are still does to be bred around this region...

Anyhow, congrats!!!!

Saw at least 6 does throughout the morning (possibly 10 - some may have been the same deer I saw earlier). I watched them feed then bed. I got down at 10am for lunch and was back in the stand by 2pm. The buck was on the same trail headed towards the bedded does at 2:10pm. Not sure if he was after them (5 hours later) but his nose was on the ground??? His neck did not appear to be swollen, but I believe he was looking for the does.

Thanks everyone. Just finished butchering and noticed a huge bulge in his right leg below the knee. You can see it in the truck bed picture. The leg was completely broke and filled with green pus/infection. Deer are tough creatures! I have his unofficial score and I recorded it before looking at any guesses. Tune in Monday for the results!

Fly, I think that I'm way off, however, calculating width, length, circums and beams I add up to a total of about 111.25 inches. I will round up for the "offical guess of 115.5". Please let me know where I am wrong. Great looking deer and congrats on your long & hard fought season.

spread 16.0

beams 17 + 14 = 31.0

g1 5 + 5 = 10

g2 7 + 7 = 14

g3 6.5 +6.5 = 13

g4 3.5 = 3.5

1st circum 3.75 + 3.75 = 7.5

2nd circum 3.25 + 3.25 = 6.5

3rd circum 3 + 3 = 6

4th circum 2.75 + 2.0 = 4.75

grand total of 111.25

good luck to all

Time is running out!

I'm going to get the gift card today. Guess Walmart would be the best bet since they seem to be everywhere. Going to up it to $15.00 (yes I'm a big spender).

Smack, that deer was taken on private ground. I have permission to hunt a small corner of a large farm (mostly a cattle grazing hillside that runs down to a creek). The neighboring land is a huge field that has been allowed to grow over with brush for the past 5-6 years. Thick and great for bedding. There are only a few trees that are suitable for a treestand, but that's all one guy needs. The rest of the farm has a lot of timber and is hunted by the farmers relatives. My corner is not hunted because there are cattle there at times and because of the lack of timber. I don't hunt this area much in November. I wait until late season when the deer head to the thick stuff due to the hunting pressure.

As I get older I realize hunting big bucks requires hunting smarter. Some times it's better to go somewhere else or even stay home if your favorite spot has the wrong wind.

Nice buck 130 1/8

Given the season you had Stone we all should have figured this was your year! Great guess. I measured him to Gross 130 4/8 inches. William, if Stone had not added that 1/8 of an inch it would have been a tie and I would have had to go to Wal-Mart and buy another gift card. LOL

Stone, pm me your address and I'll get you your winnings!

Merry Christmas all!
