mrswtnhunt
Hey guys, Just wanted to brag a little. I connected with a doe yesterday morning. Here is the story: Hubby and I walked out about 5:45am in the morning, temp is 29degrees with wind chill about 21. He walked me to my stand first. I had some trouble getting up the ladder. My belly kept getting in the way and my hunting clothes were too tight and I couldn't hardly get my leg high enough to reach the next rung. I about fell once at the top. By the way, I am 5 months pregnant. Anyway, It was about 7:30am and I spotted 3 doe and a spike at the corner of the field at an old mineral site. I raised my binoculars up to get a better look. The sun was right in my face and I think one of the doe spotted me because of the reflection off the bino's. They all went into the woods away from me. I let out a short tending grunt sequence and within 15 minutes they were back. I could see the spike had separated from the 3 doe, he went along the treeline just inside the woods and then out in the field downwind of me. I think he was trying to figure out what made the grunt. Anyway, the 3 doe came out into the field. The same doe that I think spotted my bino's kept looking at me every couple steps. She was on full alert and I knew I was pegged. The other 2 doe kept grazing. I slowly pulled the gun up each time the spooky doe put her head down. It seemed like it took forever. Finally she was in the crosshairs. She was slightly quartering to me so I waited for her step with her right front leg forward and WHAM... she dropped in her tracks. I will post pics when my hubby gets back from hunting this morning. After I shot, both of the other 2 does stayed in the field and kept looking at my doe. They were there at least 15 minutes. The smaller one acutally walked up to her and stuck its nose out toward it. I teared up, It was like the smaller doe was saying, "Get up Mommy" and she wouldn't get up. Kinda made me a little sad. I texted my hubby to come and make some noise in the woods so the 2 doe would leave the field. He was hunting in the woods adjacent to the field I was hunting. Being 5 months pregnant and my clothes too tight and drinking hot chocolate....I really had to pee. Will post some pics when my hubby gets back from hunting this morning. Oh, by the way.....ITS A BOY!!! :baby:After 3 girls, we get a son.
wtnhunt
Here is a pic. I dropped her .243 accidentally back after the first rifle season and we never got around to checking the scope so she had to borrow my .270. No track job, she dropped her. Alisha
You go girl! :toot: Great story and great picture! Just think, when your little boy gets old enough, you can both look back at this picture and tell him that was his first ever deer hunt! ruttinbuc
and WHAM! :cool2: Wat to go Catrina! Couldn't be happier for you. It is great to see you get out and get it done. Great story of the hunt. I know the feeling of having the other deer look over the body. All part of it. Just shows you are human. No doubt It will be a hunt to remember with the little guy on board. Congrats once again! Good looking doe!
wtnhunt
May seem like just a doe to some, but could not be more proud of the wife for getting back out and getting one. I know the feeling of having the other deer look over the body. All part of it. Just shows you are human. Yep Mike, that is pretty well what I told her when I walked up and saw she was teared up. Think it is perfectly normal to feel remorse after taking an animal.

HuntingPA
CONGRATULATIONS on the nice doe and the new addition you got coming along. My wife was 4-5 months pregenant with our first child when she got her one and only buck( so far). A nice 5 pointer, the baby she was carrying is now 13 and a pretty good hunter himself (and BIGGER than his Mom by a good 10" and 40 lbs)...Guess you can say John has been hunting with us his whole life. It can be tough when the young hang around the doe after she goes down, I had that happen in archery this year on a doe I took, fawn even followed me a bit on the drag out, then just beeded around there for a couple days. But within a week that little fawn got to be pretty smart all on her own, nailing me a couple times as i headed to stand and making quite the ruckus at me. By rifle season she was running with some other deer, but the day after the season I was getting some stuff out of the stands and she fed in our small food plot right near where I got her Mom and we just stared at each other for awhile, like she knew the chasing was all over and I was once again not a threat. Hunting is some spiritual stuff... BEST OF LUCK and continued success. Edited December 30, 2010 by HuntingPA
