PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Today dawned clear and sunny with only a little wind. I just could not wait any longer to get the flintlock out and make sure it was still shooting where I wanted it. This summer I had cataract surgery and my eyesight is much different than it was. The surgeon replaced my lenses with corrective lenses. I used to be very near sighted but now I am far sighted but can see perfectly at distance without glasses. I have found that some of my hunting rifles had to be changed a little because of the eye operation. I loaded my flintlock up and went to my backyard range and got her all lined up on the bench, had perfect ignition and hit about 1 1/2 inches high at 50 yds but right on. I felt so good about the shot I just cleaned the rifle up and declared that if I missed it would not be the rifles fault. I am so looking forward to PA's flintlock season. I can no longer shoot a bow so the muzzleloader has taken over as my most favorite season.

HuntingPA
GOOD LUCK guys..work will not allow me many days out, in fact New Years day Saturday may be it for me, we got some deer in the freezer so no big deal on that end, just sad to be missing that great time to be in the woods. Be safe and keep your powder dry.
PA_Spike_King
Well HuntingPA, just have fun with the time you can get out. PA RIDGE RUNNER is my father and this time of the year is magical for him and I so we just make it the best of all seasons. Besides turkey huntin but that is a different thread. PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
Now let's see I am using the barrel with the big hole in one end. I am using the 1:28 twist barrel. I haven't shot the 1:48 barrel much. Not enough to be confident with it. That is a plan for next spring or at least after muzzy season to put it on and shoot some of those bullets up and see what shoots best out of it. HuntingPA Spike King tells me you are from up around Warren PA. We occasionally hunt a farm about 25 miles west of there near Columbus. That is we hunt if we can see over the snow there. LETMGROW
Good luck to you. I have never used a flintlock. I get pis--- at a cap and ball. Until I bought In-Line with 209 primers. Good luck. I'd like to shoot a flintlock but don't have any desire to own one. Lynn
PA_Spike_King
Lynn, Pop and I have shot flinters since the late 70's and it is just something you have to get used to. Yeah I used to swear at them at times but most times they have worked flawless for us. Him and I have killed many of deer after CHRISTmas and we would not change a thing. LETMGROW
Eric, I have to admit they may be fun. Like everything else new to you, you probably have to learn a few tricks. I may buy one some day just to play around with. If I decide to I'll get some advice from you as to what to buy. Here in NY we can use in-line scoped " primitive " front loaders to hunt with. Performance from even the cheaper ones is really good. Best of luck to you and Pop ! Happy holidays. Lynn

PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
So far I have left 3 - 4 legal bucks walk this fall just so I have a tag for late Flintlock season. Well almost true anyhow. I let em walk so they could grow a bit more headgear next year. Already have 2 does in the freezer so if I get one with a flintlock it will be donated. 250savage
So how did everybody do?? I went out for the first time with my flintlock today and was successful by taking a nice doe. It is a lot of fun! Had a couple of "CLICKS" and had to refill the pan. But that's what makes it exciting.
PA_Spike_King
250, we got to see some deer and I left a small doe have the first pass as I have already killed a doe with my muzzy in the early season and the wind was just a killer today. Glad to hear you scored.
magnatecsteve
OMG!!:jaw: I quit posting on here long ago due to everyone being in-line shooters. No offense, but a total different beast from traditional smokepoles. Been shooting flintlocks for umm..23 years now, they are in my opinion the most beautiful guns there are!
