Pictures of your favorite deer harvests

I chased this 5 1/2 year old all year long and finally caught up with him on muzzleloader season. I had only seen pictures of the deer as he had gotten very wise with age and knew how to get around on the property without being detected.

He mostly became nocturnal and I finally caught him at 175 yards with the tc pro hunter and filled my tag.

This was the last year I was able to hunt this property and probably the prettiest deer I have ever shot. He was not the biggest, but at 166" he was by far the smartest buck I have had a chance to hunt.

Guess I may go with last years buck Frank, http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94834. While he is not the heaviest or the highest scoring deer it was pretty special given all the history we had with that deer, got so close to getting the deer with the bow just a few days prior. The wife had the same deer in her scope during the muzzleloader season and was too shaky to shoot in early November. Given that I went without killing a single deer the year prior when having passed up in the neighborhood of nearly 20 bucks, I suppose that adds to making it special. My oldest daughter was with me twice the season before when we were pretty sure we saw the same deer, once having my scope on him at last fading light and opting to pass up at that time for not being certain it was the right deer, so to get him the following year in a year when deer sightings were the lowest they had been for me in a long long time made it pretty special.

No contest for me…

This is BY FAR, my favorite deer kill ever. It was in 2007, my oldest was 10 years old…and it was the first year PA allowed anyone under 12 to hunt deer via their mentor program. John was a real trooper the first two days of rifle, lots of rain, and the only deer he saw was the big doe his Mom got around 11AM on the opener.

By the first Saturday, a cold snap changed things to snow but we still have yet to see a deer and I was worrying about loosing his interest…but the cold temps got the guys out moving around and deer up on their feet, we heard some shooting on the neighboring property and then had a buck and 5 does come by us, moving pretty quick til they got into some cover. I stopped the buck in an opening…and Johnny heart shot it with his single shot .243

BEST DAY of my hunting life…so far. Do not have TV quality video or anything, just some short clips from a handheld camera. I did not get the shot on film like I intended as I was too busy coaching and concentrating on getting the job done first. After the shot, We had to stay in stand for a good 20 minutes eventhough we saw the buck go down, cause our knees were bouncing so bad with excitement, I did not want to attempt climbing down the ladder.

He is now 13 and must be twice this size and his voice changed the whole nine yards, man they do some changing quick …still his only buck kill though.

Here he is the little guy as the days starts…

Here he is after we got to the buck.

This is not one of those monsterbuck, high BC score posts, I likely won't have many of those...but it made #1 in my memory record book and truthfully it is the only one I ever read.

This deer is my biggest to date (I killed this one on the first day of the 2008 season). Also what makes this one special is on the same date BUT in 1968 my Dad killed his biggest deer not 150 yards from where I got this one.

But I could go on and on about different hunts that my Dad and I have killed deer together but this one is a great memory.

Really some great stuff here everyone!

HuntingPA, that video of your sons first buck is great!

I've got another I'm going to post as a follow up to my previous one. As I wrote previously just harvesting a deer was a major acomplishment for me during the first 20 years I hunted. After my 6 year dry spell I connected on a small 8-pointer in 1998. Every year since then I have been fortunate enought to take at least one deer every year. All were does or small racked bucks (all scoring under 100 inches) until 2006 when I arrowed my first "MonsterBuck". I shot it right at dark so I decided to look for it the next morning. After 5 hours I could not find him. Was busy the next day, so the third day I went looking again - all day. After searching for another 5-6 hours I got totally turned around. I had given up searching and was just looking for a road, trail that would lead me to something that looked familiar. That's when I saw it, a familiar looking aluminum arrow with an attached giant 200lb+ buck. I had found the deer, but still had no idea where I was. After several more hours I finally figured out where I was and was able to recover my deer. It scored 161 and 3/8 inches and changed deer hunting for me as I had come to know it.

This is my biggest racked buck I shot with 16 points grossing 171 and change. Went out to pull a stand and ended up having him following a hot doe. I was standing on the ground when I saw the doe flip her tail, shortly after that I saw him coming my way. I was facing the wrong way and somehow turned all the way around and drew back. He walked into the opening 15 yards in front of me and I drilled him. This deer gave me the biggest adrenaline rush I have ever had on a whitetail and it lasted a Looooooooonnnnnnnggggg time. My dad and brother came out to help me track him and drag him out which made it even more special.

Biggest 8 point for meHere is a 13 point double drop tine on the wall that has a great story behind it and is a nice trophy... But, the 8 pointer I got this year is a big deer for a southeast harvest, and is the biggest 8 point I've seen. He weighed 225lbs with nice mass, tine length , and spread (24" outside and 21 1/2" inside spread). I'm not sure of the official score yet but he is a stud to me.:D

Awesome deer and stories everyone, great to see the kids out there too! My favorite deer harvest wasn't even mine, but I was there so I figure that counts ;). It was the first year my wife had more than a couple days to hunt and she put in weeks of hard work and had passed on a lot of nice deer, including a couple that I stronlgy suggested she harvest. She was determined to wait for the right one. It was the last week of the season when this guy walked out on a trail we were watching and she didnt hesitate. It was a special thing to put in all that work by her side and to see the excitement and hard work pay off. It was a day neither of us will ever forget.

Holy Cow Crew999,

Your wife's wait for the right deer sure paid off! That deer is a monster. They don't grow them like that in the Southeast US. Where were you guys hunting? That looks like a deer really close to the border if not from Canada. Awesome deer... body looks more like a cross between a deer and a bovine. Congrats on that one!

Tough choice for me but both are does.

First, my first & only bow kill. After getting my bow from Kyle, & my driver's license I set out to get my first bow kill. All year I practiced & hunted hard while only seeing 2 does (one of which I almost got a shot on). Finally, on October 1 while hunting my cousin's stand, this doe came in at about 17 yards & I smoked her! Made some calls while I tried to calm down enough to climb down. After Daddy & Grandaddy got there we trailed her up & found her about 50 yards away. Even though she was the smallest deer I've ever harvested, I was very proud!

The other one is from this past season. As most of you know on October 27,2009 I was in a motor vehicle accident that left me paralyzed from my chest down. We built me a gun rest which supports my gun. After a couple close calls, I was able to get my first deer from my wheelchair. Being with my Grandaddy made it tat much better!

Very Cool Monster Buck! I have a buddy that had an accident too. Same situation chest down with biceps and no triceps. He has been in a chair more than 25 years. We have toyed with a lots of hunting racks from drawer slides to you name it... I can't really tell what your set-up is like. My buddy lives in another state now but I can get some pics of his latest setup and forward them to you. It's not hard to make and gives you full movement radially. PM me and we will get into it a little deeper if your interested...

Congrats on the deer! It's great that you haven't lost the passion and still pursue the sport.

This is my most memorable deer hunt. Oct 31, 2005

I was hunting in the woods behind the house(38 miles north of NYC). My son Joe went out early in the yard before school, to pull the card from the trail cam. He spooked this buck as he entered the woods. 10 minutes later he was standing in front of me broadside at 25 yards while I was in my favorite maple tree about 200 yards away. He had an injured left rear leg that had a Grapefruit sized ball on his knee and was walking on 3 legs. I drove an arrow through both front shoulders and down he went. He pushed with the only leg he had, and that drove him in a circle around a tree until he expired.

( Wow...my hair was quite black then :D)

I've been hunting on my family's land for years. Have taken a few bucks and countless does but I never imagined a big boy like this would be walking around our property. I'd got off work around 1 that afternoon. Rushed home and caught a quick power nap. Up and out the door by 2:30! Walking to my stand I noticed a really good set of fresh tracks heading to the adjoining field. Luckly for me this is the field I hunt in. I jumped in the ditch that seperates the two and made a "b" line to my stand. By 3 I was settled and eyes glued to the wheat field I was overlooking. When I first saw him I was dumb struck. Like a kid in a candy store. Then I realized he was walking towards the fence row. I made that lil noise that the pro guys use to no luck. Then I hollared out hey! That stopped him and my 300 Win Mag jumped on me. Luck was on my shoulder because he ran straight to me. Stopping only 20' under my stand. With crosshairs on his back I squeezed the trigger and he was down. With the help of a friend we loaded him on the fourwheeler and headed to the barn. My dad had pulled up and called me sayin you are tearing up my wheat with that fourwheeler. At that time I slowed down enough to pick his head up and dad said oh nevermind! This guy will be on my wall proudly displayed not as a trophy but as a memory! This is my Ramey Farms Buck!
