Congrats on your buck...There is no easy way for me to put this, but i think you need to find a different taxidermist...sure the price is good, and the turn around even better, but in my opinion, the final product looks like a 10 year old did it....JMO...

Again, congrats on your deer!

he was at least 12. i by no means am i professional taxidermist but i cant see any problems with it.

I agree with Dan. I thought the exact same thing when I looked at this thread earlier, but didnt say anything due to getting accused of bashing. I am by no means taking away from your deer and successful hunt at all, you did a good job. However I also feel your taxidermist dropped the ball on you. It just doesn't look right. Maybe to someone who hasn't seen many mounts it is ok, but look at the ears, nose, and mouth....also the workmanship around the eyes.

It resembles something mounted in the 70s.

That said, it isn't mike's fault....it's the taxidermist's.

Thanks Kyle...you nailed what i was referring to.

Thats all i was trying to say, I was by no means bashing Mikes efforts or harvest....I was simply saying what kyle pointed out.

i didnt mean to ruffle anyones feathers here, next time i'll try and use a different approach.

Again, Congrats to you mike on your harvest!

Just so we are on the same page Dan ,, I wasn't looking for a fight, heck my feathers weren't even ruffled .. ;) I just thought the 10 yr. old comment was a little raw.

Just in my opinion of course .. I think he got what he paid for .. ;) ... Now if he had said he paid $500 + I'd be right with you on your assesment of the quality of workmanship, but he only paid a couple hundred bucks for a mount ... I hope I made sense ..

I definately don't want any hard feeling between you and I, so I hope we are good .. :)

And I opologize for side tracking this poor guy's post ..

Mike, please don't think everyone is bashing your mount or kill at all, it is directed towards your taxidermist. It's just very uncommon for such a quick turn around on a mount unless a taxidermist has an extra hide on hand. In general the mount looks good but the detail of the mount I believe is what we are all looking at, such as the ears, eyes, the snout, and the form itself.

You are very proud of it and that is what counts and I'm happy for you. He's a great deer and will hold lots of memories for you of the hunt.

Hi Mike, I know you said you are happy with the work and that is all that really matters, however I would encourage you to take a look at some other taxidermy work from other taxidermists before letting this person mount another deer for you. Price is right, but sometimes you get what you pay for so to speak. The turnaround time of 3 weeks is just not enough time and I would have to agree with what has been posted by a few other members on the detail work.

My deer from last December I just picked up the Friday the week before last, took a year. It took a couple weeks for the dry in after the deer was mounted before he even painted. I paid $260 which is kinda cheap for around here. Reminds me that I need to get some pics of my deer.

Your buck was a cool buck for sure, congratulations.

None taken, and its my fault for not choosing a better combination of words to express my feelings/thoughts...It was a little rough and i apologize for that.

Again, Mike,

Great Deer Bud!!!! No offense to you, your efforts or your harvest...Well Done!

Great deer! Sometimes pictures make a mount look a lot worse than it does in person. The mount does not look good from the pictures (sort of has that looney toon look to it). I know I have a near 500.00 mount that from certain angles looks terrible and others looks a lot better (see below)

Terrible:

Better:

I asked the RT forum members and they let me have it straight. It was tough to hear, but I switched taxidermists. This is my latest mount and cost me only 350.00. (My favorite mount to date)
