bowana
After being swayed by the gun writers, I purchased a Ruger 77 Hawkeye Compact (synthetic stock) in 338 RCM. Topped it with a Zeiss 3x9 conquest (600 reticle) and bought dies and brass. Also purchased 3 boxes of 200 grain Superformance Hornady cartridges. Replaced the LC6 trigger (broke clean at......6.2 lbs) with a rifle basix (2 lbs 11oz-everytime). If it shoots straight....its going bear hunting in NW Montana in May. Any one have one in 300 or 338 RCM?
Shaun_300
Nice looking rifle! Don't know much about the calibers, other than the advertisements. Sounds like a good round. Let us know how it shoots!
Jeramie
I love the M77 line. They are good shooting rifles, I have two. It should be a heck of a bear gun. Congratulations!
m gardner
It's supposed to have the same ballistics as the 338-06. I used a 185 grain Barnes TSX at 2950fps. It killed on both ends. I think you'll like the cartridge on big game.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I'm real interested in hearing your reviews after you've had a chance to dial it in. I'm looking for something a bit larger and the 338 RCM is on my short list.
bowana
Well, took out the rifle for a test run. This rifle is capable of far better accuracy than I ever thought. I never get too excited when it comes to standard production rifles...but wow! If I use a lead sled and/or shooting bags, I'm pretty sure I could shoot 1/2 to 3/4" groups. This is with a 20" barrel!! However, the jury is still out on the Zeiss scope. The "click" adjustments did not seem to be moving the"1/4 inch click at 100" as its suppose to. I'll update at my next range session with bullet speed, groupings and scope issue. Also, recoil is very low for a 338 and muzzle blast suprisingly absent?? Very interested in playing around with this new "Superformance" powder.......especially with my custom 7mm Rem Short mag.
Strut10
No experience with the RCM's here. Can't say that I'd ever even considered them. They just seem to fill a niche that I don't need filling. But the specs on your new .338 look pretty usable. Sounds like it's a great shooter for you too. Should make a dandy "do-all" rifle. Keep us updated..............and on the Zeiss, too. I've been thinking about picking one up.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I noticed the same thing with my Zeiss Conquest when I sighted it in. If I needed to move one inch, it took more than 4 clicks to get there. But once everything was dialed in, it held beautifully, so I guess I can't complain. BTW - www.cameralandny.com has a bunch of Zeiss scopes on sale right now for great prices. I've bought from them before and they're great people to do business with. HUNTINGMAN
This may be a stupid question but what does the RCM stand for?
