Adjam5
Hey guys. I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm rem mag which has been buried in the back of the safe for quite some time now that I am putting glass on. My wife bought me for Christmas a Redfield Revolution in 3x9x50, and I treated myself to a Wheeler Fat wrench for proper torque settings on rings and mounts. I have scope ring alignment tools and scope levels so the Fat wrench completed the set. Now I need rings for a 50mm objective... I hear Warne are great. Any recommendations? Will I need high or extra high rings? Thanks, Anthony
wtnhunt
Have not used warne rings Anthony, but have also heard only good things about them. Somewhere around here I think I have a swfa catalog that tells ring heights needed by objectives. Will dig it out and get back.
wtnhunt
From what I got out of that swfa catalog the high rings should work Anthony. Suggested that extra high are necessary when you have heavier barrels or objectives larger than 50mm.
Adjam5
Thank you William. I heard another good recommendation from a guy on the job about Warne rings. I think they will be my choice. They look quite solid as compared to the tradional weaver styled band type rings. On a 7mm mag, where these will be going. I think quality rings are very important. njbowhntr
I just switched one of my rifles over to a set of Leupold PRW rings and bases. Very similiar to the Warne. I have been very pleased with the solidness of the the set.
snapper
High rings should do fine! I personally only ever use Leupold or Burris rings....I have bought some Millets before and can't say I ever had any trouble with any.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Conetrol, Talley, Leupold, Warne, Burris are my favorites. You might also look into a tactical mount that uses a Pic rail, or one of the single piece base/ring models.
hunterbobb
With a 50MM objective there is a small chance medium rings will be high enough. If you can it might be worth you time to see if mediums will work. The lower you get the scope the better. :gun2:
doubleA
Anthony, I have several rigs with Warne's on them. A few with 50mm objectives and mediums work ok. Just last week I mounted a friend's Nikon 3x9x50 on his Marlin XL7 and mediums were used. The scope cleared the barrel by about .050". The Warnes are pretty stout, though sometimes a pain to mount as they are split vertically and the recoil lug sometimes has a habit of falling out when mounting. Really just different, just take your time time mounting them .
LETMGROW
I have had real good luck with the Weaver Quad Lock rings. I use them on everything from my .17 HMR to my 7MM WSSM. I like the two seperate bands each having seperate screws. I've never had one loosen up or slip. The heigth will depend on the barrel shape among other factors. Some taper down quickly ahead of the scope mounts while others don't. Action heigth also factors in. There doesn't really appear to be an industry heigth standard among brands. While a med. ring may work from one brand it may not work from another. Lynn
