schwatk
I'm new to bowhunting and I'm researching optic options (binoculars, monoculars, spotting scopes and range finders). I'm blind in my right eye. I can't see paying the high prices for top of the line binoculars when I will only be using half of it. What would you do for optics if you only had one eye? I live in Alpine so I'll mainly be hunting the San Diego, CA. backcountry. I also hope to hunt the Sierras too. I'm interested in deer, pig and turkey bowhunting. Thank you for any and all help! pointing_dogs_rule
I have had a detached retina in my left eye and only have limited vision in that eye. As far as price goes... you get what you pay for. Plain and simple. A good monocular will cost just as much as binoculars. Remember a spotting scope is a monocular and they are not cheap. The larger the objective the better the light gathering ability which is a plus. The quality of the optics must be considered. You don't want to be looking through a scope that has low light and a blurry image. (get what you pay for). If you are doing long range glassing I would suggest a spotting scope with a good tripod or window mount. I am a Nikon fan and the optics have always treated me well. Nikon's Prostaff has a 65 mm objective and a variable maginfication, which I like. The mag is 15-60. This is a very versitile spotting scope. Remember spotting scopes are heavy and can be cumbersome to pack around. Bino's. Once more I have Nikons. Variable magnification has only caused me trouble with bino's. That seems to be the first thing to break. A nice bino is the 12x50 fixed magnification. Nice diameter objective and good all around magnification. This would be good for a backpack and glassing deer, hogs and turkeys. good luck to all the dog
