Your sleep schedule ever get messed up?

I've been working the evening shift the last 4 weeks. I usually go in around 2PMish and get in around 10PMish...but the first 10 days or so I was getting in around 3-4AM. Those 10 days I would sleep til almost noon and since then I can't seem to get to sleep any earlier than 2AM. I am getting up around 9AM, but still can't get sleepy til way late. I'm usually in bed by 9PM and up at 430AM. I hate being up so late, but no matter how hard I try I just can't sleep.

It's gonna be awful when I go back to days.

Fly across the country.

West to East, you can stay up way later than everyone but you wake up late.

East to West, you're in bed by 8 and wake up at 3.

This morning I was up at 4:30 and made myself stay up to 10 last night. I am normally screwed up for the first day, then after that I am good to go.

My shift is about to change after the first of the year. Three days a week I will be getting up at 5:30, the other two I will be getting up at 2. The bad part is that the early days are random, so I'll never be able to get in a pattern at all. And with the second job in the evenings two days a week, I have a feeling that I won't be gettign much sleep at all.

Yep, do have sleep issues. Not from work though, used to work 2nd shift(3-11) for about 4 years and never had any issues with sleep or not getting enough of it anyway. Was usually up by 7:30 the next morning unless I had to work over the night before. Did occasionally switch shifts pull doubles for a day or week and don't recall having much trouble with sleep at all back then.

try making a living on the ocean while longline fishing in the summer months....... ask total disaster about messed sleep while doing this ~ if you get to get any sleep some nights

Exactly what Lewis said!

Sleep + longline fishing = HA! What's that?

I imagine that's what my husband (total disaster) would say. Try doing commercial longline fishing, staying 4-5 days on a boat (side note - with no toilet or shower), and HOPE to GOD that you get an HOUR of sleep in 24 hours. If you get that much, you're being spoiled on some boats. I know some trips where Justin has only gotten to lay down for a total of like 2 hours in the entire 4-5 day trip.

The men who work on these boats are literally zombies. Falling asleep while standing up baiting a tub of trawl, falling asleep while eating their ONE meal for the day, etc.. If any of you have seen the Deadliest Catch shows and the amount of sleep they get, it's sort of comparable.

It literally takes Justin a couple days to get back on his pins after a trip like that. To top it all off though, usually they make 4-5 day trips, take a day off, and make another 4-5 day trip back to back...... making a total of a possible 10-12 trips in a summer/fall.

It's pure insanity. I couldn't do it. :sleep1:

Man O Man.....shave years off your life doing that. Had a part time job working 24 hour shifts at one hospital on top of my full time job at another. I was zombified getting 3-4 hours....I can't imagine what thats like with such a physically demanding livelihood.
