Anyone here got a Mac?

My dell took a dump and I ended up sending it back to Best Buy for a complete free rebuilt. Lucky me had their Black Tie warranty program or I'd be out a 2 year old laptop. I spent about $800 dollars on it and $300 for the warranty. I don't feel $400 a year for a laptop is worth it....not to mention the hassle or having to reload everything each time you buy a new one.

I am seriously considering a macbook pro. In fact I would have bought one tonight for $2200 but they didn't have the one I wanted in stock. It came with 500 GB disk space, 2.66Ghz I7 quad core processor, and some 330MM or something like that graphics card.

I have heard wonderful things about macbooks, especially their longevity. Comparing the cost/life of a dell it would need to last almost 5 years to compare.

I've also heard of compatibility issues..........

Any insight?

I ordered mine a few days ago, should be here on Monday. I have three friends who have them and they all love them. I have had my dell for four years and it is on its last legs. I really havent heard of many bad things and as far as compatibility goes Im not sure. I made sure to get the Microsoft office for Mac so there wouldnt be any issues with documents but as far as any other compatibility issues I am also unsure.

What will you be using it for? You could save some money and just go with the 2.53GHz i5 rather than the i7. The i5 will still do things like light gaming, and some movie editing just fine. Are you or your wife a student? You can get about $200 off of the i7 with Apple student program ($150 off of the i5).

Macbook Pro is going to be next laptop. Haven't decided if I am going to order it in a couple weeks, or wait a few months for their yearly upgrade.

I will be using it for some my business as well as the occasional high graphics online gaming....so I don't mind paying the extra money. As for students....I wish, but shes a teacher and I'm a pipeliner.

No discount for us :(

If she is a teacher she should be able to get a discount also.

From Apples site: "Apple offers special education pricing on Apple computers, software and select third party products to College Students, or Teachers, Administrators and Staff of all grade levels."

Might be worth looking into if it can save a couple hundred $$

macbook

Mine is awesome. My old Imac lasted 7 years and then the ethernet card went out. at least 6 hours a day running for 7 years or so. then I got an emac its about 5 years old still going strong. Then I got my macbook pro about 3 years now had a bus die on me. 1 week for a complete rebuild - no lost information only $170 including shipping to repair. Just bought the kids a super smoker Imac 27 its unbelievable. Wife has a Dell and that sucker is about once a month getting in the shop. So for the most part I've been on macs since the 70s. Only two needed repair and the one didn't need it until it was 7 years old. My wife's dell averages more repair per month than all my 9 or so macs and thirty plus years put together. There used to be a lot of problems with compatibility with macs. that really seems to no longer be a problem. Only time I see issues is with AOL. They still are hooked on the PC world and don't realize that the real smart people fix PCs for a living and go home to use their macs.
