Call a deer with a turkey call,,,,

I went scouting this weekend, just scouting, bowseason doesn't start here until Oct 15th (grrrrrr).

After looking around, I climbed up my tree stand just to relax. Suddenly I see something coming up the tall grass about 30/40 yards from the stand. I grabbed my binocs,, saw a huge body, but could not make out the gender. It was cool just seeing it. When I reached into my backpack to grab my binocs, I saw I had my box call with me. Just for kicks, I started to let out some soft turkey clucks,, next thing you know, the deer turned and headed right to me. It came about 20 yards,, only a 4 ptr, but a huge body. I just thought I'd share that, see if anybody else ever tried this..

Nope but i believe it. They are really curious. I have a video (I think its RT Home-videos) where a doe attacks a hen decoy. A guy was using a predator call to get in predators and the doe came to it. When she saw the decoy she attacked. Its hilarious!

LOL, believe it or not but I heard this on Fitzgerald Outdoors yesterday. Dan said if your walking to your stand and accidentally step on a twig or make a loud noise, to make a turkey call to disguise the sound. He said that it will make any deer in the area think that there is a turkey over there and think nothing is wrong and might even come in. confused.gif I know it sounded bogous to me but you never know.

I feed deer at my house year round. Especially in the spring the turkeys are the first ones to munch on the corn. We can almost count it to the minute when the deer will be in behind them. Maybe they find that the turkey have already identified the area as safe. Hmmmm not sure tho.

I've always heard that deer will hang around turkeys, or "follow" them, because they feel safer. They can just put their head down, eat, and listen, and use the turkeys as a lookout for danger.

Re: Call a deer with a turkey call,,,,

There have been quite a few times when I have seen deer in close proximity of turkeys. Often enough so that I don't think it was just an accident. If you think about the diet of both, you will see a lot of similarities. It could be that when deer see turkeys, they know that there is a good food source nearby.

However, there has only been one occasion where I believe a deer came in because I was using my turkey call. That's not exactly enough occurances that I would start using a turkey call to attract deer.

I believe ANYTHING Dave (AdkHunter) says as gossipal. He is the man...!!!

Seriously, he is very wood-wise and always can back up anything he says... Mostly with personal experiences...

BUT I still think he looks ALOT like that fool SummerFlower...

That guy is an idiot... LOL (jk) smirk.gifgrin.gif
