tothebone
By scent. I handle the training antlers with tongs, put into basket afterwards, hose off, hang basket in woods. Also cover antlers with leaves and leave for period of time. Soon time for fresh shed hunting! She works the air same as last 3 dogs I trained for sheds, and pigs use nose first anyway. Dogs will use sight first if they can. Thank you for your interest!

yourdeerhere
shed dogs A buddy and I (he was a military dog handler) have been training shed dogs for a while. We have five dogs ready for spring 2011 shed hunting. One of the dogs is the best I have ever seen (chessy), two are great(chessy, weimi), and the other two are good(weimi, gsp). Chesapeake bay retriever's, bar none, are the best shed dogs known to man!
