fly
Anyone know about the new Dodge Ram outdoorsman model? I've never owned a Dodge Truck. I've had a Ford F-150 4X4 5.4L for 10 years. It has 190,000 miles and has only been in the shop a few times for front tie rods/ball joints, an alternator, idle control valve, and U joint replacement. It has been a great truck overall, but I'm getting uneasy about hauling a travel trailer from IL to Idaho for bear hunting with it. I haven't researched prices lately, but historicaly the Ram runs about 3-5 grand more than the F-150 with the same options. So what do you all think.... Is the Ram worth the price difference? wtnhunt
Dunno Frank, think someone mentioned the outdoorsman package dodge trucks a while back. Only experience with the newer dodges I have is with this durango. Overall we have been fairly happy with it. With same options it was priced a bit lower than the chevy tahoe and the saturn outlook with same options. Hear a lot of complaints on the dodges fuel efficiency, durango we have does have the hemi and it is decent for an all time all wheel drive mid sized suv. Dodge was running lifetime powetrain warranty which was a selling point for us. Not sure if the new trucks still are sold with that warranty or not, something to check into perhaps. So long as dodge stays in business those trucks/suv's should be covered in regards to the powertrain. We are gonna be in the market for a new heavy duty truck probably this spring, it won't be a dodge I don't think, but will more likely be a chevy. jcot2773
The 2010 and up Ram trucks do not have the lifetime powertrain warranty. There are so many different options on the Ram trucks anymore that it is ridiculous. They have heated steering wheels as an option. However I do not know much about the outdoorsman. They came out after i left the dealership. From what I understand It is just a beefed up shock package. Nothing to major though. But what i can tell you is that a brand new 2 wheel drive hemi, premium sound heated everything and the cool storage in the front floorboard will run you about $43000. fly
Gas millage is something I wasn't thinking of. That is very important to me. My F-150 averages 14-15mpg. Pulling my trailer it only gets 10. I just checked the mpg comparison for 4X4 models (Ford, Dodge) are about the same with the bigger engine. So far I'm leaning towards Ford. The only difference I know about the Dodge outdoors model is the side compartments above the back tires.
jcot2773
They are very comparable but I will say that in hauling a load the ford will get better gas mileage all day long, but the dodge will pull it better in my opinion. Feels like its not working as hard to pull it.

Gator
Have you looked at a Chevy? I have a 2010 4x4 with the 5.3l and I am getting almost 18 on the highway.
