Jeramie
My Brother-In-Laws 2006 focus had the alternator crap out. They took it to a garage to have it fixed but the garaged burned down (bad luck....). Anyway, they got the car out before it toasted. Now the car is sitting in my drive and I have to change the alternator on Friday. However, I for the life of me cant find the belt tensioner?! Any guesses? LETMGROW
Need to know: Is the engine a 2.0 Duratec 20, a 2.0 Duratec 20E or a 2.3 Duratec 23. There should be an emissions sticker under the hood with this information on it. Lynn

LETMGROW
As you are facing the crankshaft pulley, the tensioner will be toward the rear of the car [ left as you are looking ] and lower. It is a spring loaded tensioner. Be careful. It can bite you. I recommend wearing gloves. Lynn

That alternator was a PAIN to change. I had to take loose pretty much everything from the firewall. I had to crawl under the car to loosen bolts from under the center of the motor. It was the only way to reach them. Took about 3 hours from start to finish. I could probably now do it in half the time or less but wow... It certainly wasn't fun. I have busted up knuckles to prove it.
Shaun_300
We had a Focus come into the shop on Saturday needing an alternator. The other tech that was on with me that day. He was cursing and swearing that thing up and down the whole job. Said if he had to work on Fords all day he'd get a new career. This is coming from a tech with 25+ years experience in the trade. Glad you got it changed Jeramie.
