Mach1
With some Cabela's gift cards and money I've been saving, I'm looking at getting a spotting scope. Looking to stay under $500. I've been looking at the Nikon Prostaff 16-48x60 and it's got good reviews. I've got Nikon scopes and a rangefinder and have been very pleased with them. Here in IL where we hunt, most viewing will be done at 1/2 mile or less. Any thoughts on this scope or others in this price range? Thanks. Also, has anyone ever used any camera attachments on their spotting scopes? This is something else I've thought about getting so I could have a longer range with my digital cameras. toddyboman
Get a GOOD stable tripod! At 16 and beyond power it doesn't take much movement to loose whatever you was looking at. I don't have or ever used that nikon spotting scope but like you I have their scopes, binos, rangefinders and have been more than happy with those products. Would expect the same out of their spotting scope. Good luck!
stevebeilgard
i think nikon is the best dollar value in glass today. you chose a good scope. of course, zeiss & swarvsky are the best if you can add about 2 grand to the cost of the nikon...lol

wtnhunt
Was looking at getting a nikon spotter before we went to Wyoming, but ended up not getting it. Can catch some pretty good deals on them on ebay if you are patient. I cannot review them because I don't have one, but in general have had good experience with the nikon products we do have and would tend to expect the same of their spotters. colorado bob
I've got a Redfield 16-45x60. I really like it. used it on a couple sheep hunts & a mtn goat hunt here in Colorado. IMO anything over 45 is a waste---the heat mirage drives me nuts. Don't go cheap----you get what you pay for in optics. An eye strain headache is not fun deal at all. As far as Nikon----I've got a 6X Nikon Monark rifle scope I like. I use it on my Tikka 30/06 for elk hunting. Cabela's use to have a try it & if you don't like it send it back for a full credit--minus the freight. Maybe that is only on the Cabela's brand----doesn't hurt to ask. Remember it's going to last you a lifetime be happy with it. CB
