HAS ANYONE EVER SHOT A COYOTE WITH A .22LR???

Recommended Posts

I shot my very first coyote with a .22 from abotu 75 yards away hwne i was 14 in 1984, I hit him and he ran in circles and I shot him 2 more tiems before he dropped! Would I do it again, no way! I carry a .22 for finishing them off and

like you said seomtimes takes soem time and lots of shots even close to finish them off!I would not jsut use a .22 to many wounded will get away unless you are shootign within 40 yards and you can poke one through his eye couse if you are off a bit they will take off!

Yeah, when I was in high school I wacked a coyote with one at 20 yards. I thought it would have done more on the dog but it never killed it. It was a perfect broadside shot, he went staight down and spun around a few times and took off. I tracked him about 3/4 of a mile and never caught up with him. I trapped him later on in the winter, the shot was right into the sholder, but it must not have penetrated. When I skinned him you could still see where the bulllet pierced the hide. After wounding that yote, I would still use a 22LR for them, but only when I was checking my traps, incase I had to dispatch one. As for shooting them on the loose never again. 22 mag minimum.

I would have to agree with just about everyone here...if you are already out with your 22LR and see a yote...ok...if you are good enough...only one I've ever seen shot with a 22 was by my older brother while hunting rabit, he shot it right between the eyes and it never moved again...but if you are specificaly hunting coyotes use a little more gun.
