Bowtech_archer07
Has anyone here ever used them? If so, what do you think? Have you had any trouble with them opening? Blood trails using them? Basically tell me anything and everything you know from experience please. The reason I ask is I lost two deer this year using Muzzy 3 blade 100 gr broadheads. I'm not saying it was the broadhead's fault, but one deer bedded down and there was a blood puddle twice the size of my foot and I still lost the deer. I'm looking for answers, and one of those might be to change broadheads. I have heard nothing but good things about Grim Reapers, but also wanted any more feedback I could get. danthehuntinman
I have never shot them my buddy shoots them and he said he wouldn't trade them for anything. He got a couple deer with them this year and he said the farthers one ran was like 50 to 60 yards. He shot one he said dropped in its tracks and he hit in it the lungs and front shoulder. PotashRLS
I can't say enough good about them!!! I am a bit biased only because my brother and I have been using them since they came out roughly 10 years ago or so. To be fair, I have also killed deer with Razorback 5s, 100gr & 125gr Muzzys, Satellites, Rocky Mountain Expandables, and Eastman First Cuts. I shot one doe with Rage 3 blade a few years ago that didn't turn out so good. I have a thread from 2007 about that. All the broadheads I mentioned above kill deer. Some put more blood on the ground than others. Some hold up better than others. But in our experience, (myself, my brother, and two buddies in wheel chairs) we have killed 30+ deer with these heads and one bear. They hold together very well for an expandable. If you smash into the shoulders or spines, you will bend some blades and possibly the ferrule. The only head that lost blades was on my bear in 2009. The head (1 3/4") went through the bear's near shoulder, spine and poked into the opposite shoulder. The arrow (xx78 2317) was perfectly intact. I dispatched the bear with my 44mag. Blood trails are great and boiler room hits put the deer down in sight of the stand the majority of the time. One thing folks don't like about the Reapers is that they have a spring and cam ring and must be put together correctly. We tweek some out of the package to get the tension just the way we like them. A drop of Rem Oil helps too. They fly perfectly from all our bows including 2 high-poundage crossbows. If you shoot what I consider a lighter setup (carbon arrows and under 60lbs draw) I would not shoot the wide cut. Stay with the 1 3/8". Hope this helps. Bowtech_archer07
Thanks Potash! I shoot carbon arrows out of Bowtech Ol' Glory but I'm shooting almost a 70 lb. draw weight also.
