AceArcher
My brother-in-law's inlaws gave him thier father's Browning Grade 2 Automatic Rifle on new years eve (~1968). He brought it over to his parents house on that day to show me, and it was a beautiful rifle. That night (new years day morning) someone drove down the country road and stole the gun out of his SUV. The theft happend in Jasper, County IL in the country between Yale and Hidalgo IL. This is a long shot but if anyone one here comes across someone trying to sell this gun I am offering a small reward for the return or information on the scoundrel who stole it. I will post the serial number of the gun shortly. Take care and happy new year.
msman825
very sorry to hear this, I NEVER leave any gun in my truck period. just a quess but i'd be checking to see who-new the gun was left in the truck, if there was nothing else took from the truck but the gun sounds like someone knew it was left in there. hope they find it
AceArcher
No one knew the gun was in there. Just bad luck that they saw out of state plate and for some reason the door wasn't locked. Rural areas are filled with rif-raf, meth heads and the like. They were just out riding the roads looking for something to steal. My father in law has had fuel and a few other things stolen in the last year or two. Someone going to end up meeting his 44 mag at some point.

AceArcher
Good news. Someone "found" the gun and turned it in. The guy told the sherriff that found the gun on the side of the road. Yet it took him two months to call and law and turn it in and the gun was free of rust or stock damage. Shirriff said that we can't prove it either way so just be happy to have your property back. Sounds pretty fishy to me but at least my BIL has his gun back. I would imagine that the word got out that the gun was stolen and that my BIL had the serial number. After that the gun was pretty worthless to a theif b/c the can't sell it. Flintlock1776
Well, you got it back and that is what counts. Many folks that have their guns lifted at not as fortunate as you.
Shaun_300
Glad you got it back, very lucky indeed! I know if my gun got stolen I wouldn't have much hope seeing it again.

Tecumseh
I know how you feel,I had my Ruger Alaskan stolen out of my girlfriends SUV on the way home from the range, stopped at the grocery store for 15min and came out and found a window knocked out. I still hope it blows up in the hands of whoever took it the next time they or whoever has it now the next time they shoot it!!!!!!!!! wtnhunt
Glad to hear he got it back. Your brother in law is probably pretty lucky, guessing most stolen guns the owners also report the serial #'s stolen but think it pretty unlikely they ever get their guns back.
