My Thing....Making turkey calls

I once worked at basspro, we use to put calls out for customers to run, one day I was standing there watching customers, and the Lord said to me...start making calls..some may believe this some may not, but that's how it happened, I went out bought a lathe, tools, wood, supplies, and just started to make calls, It was as if my hands just knew what to do. Since that day back in 2006, I have made hundreds of calls, made a lot of friends, and still enjoy making each and everyone, and the Lord gets the Glory for it all..

My friends got me into archery about a year and a half ago. I became obsessed, started buying gear, neglecting work to research archery topics. About 6 months ago I really wanted to start getting more hands on experience working in archery, so I got a part time job at Bass Pro. I absolutely love it. I definitely don't know near enough yet but I learn something new every day, and seeing the satisfaction on a customer's face makes the long days well worth while.

The weather. Without a doubt, meteorology has always been a fascination of mine, along with topography. As a child I would just study maps for hours on end, and would always obsess about the weather. I always had my own little homemade weather stations set up in different locations and would compare the readings. Once the somewhat sophisticated home weather stations came on the market I was in heaven! The very first birthday gift my GF (now wife of 8 years) gave me was a hand-held anemometer, she thought I was nuts. (Now she's sure of it!:D) I want to pursue a PhD in meteorology at some point, hopefully sooner than later.

I really believe the weather plays a bigger role in our lives than we realize, there is an algebraic equation that measures the difference between the Oxygen in the air in our lungs, and the Oxygen in our blood...the first variable in that equation is the Barometric pressure. If the weather can affect the amount of O2 that gets into our blood, what else does it affect?

As mostly everyone knows on here.

Mine would be reenacting. I've always liked it, Been a fan of History all my life. Well I was out at a park out one day when they were having a Civil War reenactment. Talked to a guy named coop that did it (I was about 10 at the time So I couldn't be in battles or anything of that sort) But I still got into it for a little bit. Got out of it for about 4 years. Then I met a guy my age that did it that lives here in town. Started talking to him bout how i did it when I was younger.

He got me back into it. Got me in with his group (81st Illinois)

I love this hobby as much as I love my family. I don't ever see me getting out of it.

So that's my "thing"

My number 1 would definitely be engines. Love building something by hand that will turn 6-7K RPM and make hundreds of HP. :D Even imagining and thinking that crankshaft turns 100 times/second at 6K RPM is just fascinating and mind boggling for me. Most people wouldn't even think about it. But that's my "thing". Second up is the weather, I love the weather, researching it, following forecasts, etc.

Besides the obvious hunting, a couple things:

Shed antler hunting....love the spring time woods and the treasured tines poking up from the forest floor

Fly Tying...taught myself and love it

Farming equipment...don't ask me why but anything tractor related...grew up in the country and as a very young girl, my mom and I can remember me running to thr window to watch the tractors go up and down the road. Almost still do to this day...lol

Ask anyone that knows me well and they would say hunting and archery.

As for something less obvious....baseball. I'm a huge student of the game. Although, I love the Dodgers, I keep track of most teams. My son tries to stump me when we're trying to complete baseball card sets by telling me a team and the position the player plays. I can get them 99% of the time. Right now, we're working on completing the 2008 Bowman Chrome set. I'd say we're about 50% through although we've opened 6 boxes so far.

I hate to use a common one but its definately turkey hunting.... (honestly not trying to brag but) I have become so confident in my abilities as a turkey hunter that I almost know that if I can get on a bird and know his patterns and habits that he will be mine... Ive done it on the last 5 longbeards Ive killed.... Whats fun is getting it right the first time. Like when I killed a turkey that hung up on me opening morning and then killing him the next day where he hung up at. Second is Football. If there is anything news or otherwise about the sport I proabaly already knew about it.

I have always enjoyed chasing storms!

Well, as most everyone on here knows. I am a very "Hands On" person. If I think I can make something I will give it my best try. Whether it is one of my "Ladies" or a dining room table. But, I gotta say that "Heatin and Beatin" is by far my most favorite thing, followed closely by using the creation thereof on a fresh God granted harvest. There is just nothing that comes close for me to the satisfaction of dressing out that harvest with a blade that I created, it just brings everything full circle.

I work in NYC at the largest and most busiest construction site in the world, Ground Zero. With the commute everyday( I drive), the constant noise, dirt, dust and fast pace every day. I cannot wait to get up to my country house on the weekends to enjoy the peace and quiet that place brings and make improvements to our property for the benefit of wildlife. I spend close to 100 days a year there in the country.

My greatest love is hunting and anything that has to do with hunting.

I also love dabbling in art (painting, carving, etc.), but haven't done it in a long time now. I hope to get back into my art someday, when I can get out of house painting for a living. I have plenty of art projects floating around in my head.:turned:

My thing is the outdoors and taking pictures and video of it. I try to give equal time to hunting and fishing and the camera is almost always with me. I enjoy sharing the experiences through my eyes. I enjoy dabbling in video editing. A lot of fun to say the least.
