Guest TennesseeTurkey
While were on the subject.... My stove plugs into the wall and Im guessing how it works is like this.... sucks air from underneath and blows it out the top.... but the thing is for the last little while it dosent seem to blow out very much but the fan is wide open.... I have to leave the bottom door open to keep the fire lit most of the time and Ive cleaned the ashes out.... Also I have some kind of oil looking substance that leaks out sometimes, I saw someone else say something about oil? School me on what this thing does.... kidd
well i am guessing that oil substance is creasote (sp).....what kind of wood are you burning?

92xj
I believe your stove uses oil, the reason you might not be getting heat is because its out or low on oil.
Guest TennesseeTurkey
Then how and what do I need to put in it?
92xj
I would put oil in it. It goes in the oil fill hole.
Guest TennesseeTurkey
What kind of oil and are we even sure it needs or uses oil?
92xj
I really have no idea on either of those questions. Just trying to get your hopes up. Did it work?

92xj
No, I knew with this topic as with many you were clueless and just boosting your post count.... nah, I actually thought it did use oil since The Bug house has a wood stove that looks exactly like yours and he used 75 gallons of oil in his last year. No!! 75 gals in my oil burner/forced air system! I burn wood and oil...2 different units. I supplement my wood heat with oil, by "supplement" I mean when my wife doesn't feel like dealing with the stove.

The Bug House
well i am guessing that oil substance is creasote (sp).....what kind of wood are you burning? more importantly, when was the last time you swept your chimney? I do mine every year, some guys do it more often. Where is this "oil" leaking from? Sounds like you've got draft issues.......

The Bug House
I never have.... How do you do that? buy one of those logs? The oil looks like its coming from the side door.... Ill take pics... I use a friends chimney brush, essentially just a big wire brush, on a long flexible pole that you assemble as you jam it up the chimney. (or down)I take the stovepipe out of the wall insert and start shoving. It makes a mess sometimes, but mine is in the basement so no big deal. You can hire a chimney sweep, probably fairly inexpensive, but I'm cheap and like to do it myself. Be really careful with those chemical logs, if you have heavy creosote buildup, it may cause large pieces to come lose and completely occlude your chimney, or even worse, start a chiney fire. The Bug House
I'd even say you're at high risk for a chimney fire! Edited January 9, 2011 by The Bug House
kidd
pull out your pipe and see how much creosote you have...if your plugged then it will affect your draft....i bet your system is plugged....call a chimney sweep...a professional chimney cleaner...around here a sweep will cost $60-$100.00.....well worth it....make sure he is certified....our chimney guy is a fireman/chimney sweep....good combination.......oak/hickory is great wood to burn...it burns hot.....as long as it is dry...we also go to a pallet company and cut up pallets.....not alot of wood that burns long but creates good heat that will burn out creosote....That is what i would do and we have been burning wood for our entire life.....just saying
NS whitetail
Has the chimney ever been cleaned out ? If not, you best get it done, or like some others said, you are at risk of having a chimney fire for sure. I do mine before winter, and a couple of times during winter.
