Late season Hunt

Went out with a buddy last night to hunt one of his nice properties and set up on one side of a ravine to try to intercept bucks coming up the timber towards the food source.

It was a great night but as luck had it they were coming up the other side of the creek at 75 yards distance. I counted 8 different bucks, 2 shooters including a 140 class 8 point with a split g2 and a 150 class 10 point!

Dang the luck, but they slowly made their way up the draw and never even knew I was there. They were so pretty against a fresh dusting of snow, and just before dark I got to watch about 50 turkeys come out of the field above me and roost all around me in the trees.

What a nice evening in the late season at 9 degrees!

Well I guess we were not meant to have it happen tonight. We got set up and heard a baying hound in the bedding area 1/2 hr after we were in the stand. My buddy said he saw deer blowing thru the timber way out in front of us.

Well we are going to give it a day to settle back down and maybe try it on Wednesday night again. My buddy did shave a bearded hen twice tonight lol. Once at 35 yards and once at 40 yards.

He said after the second shot she came back around and picked at the arrow shaft stuck in the ground. I told him that was her just saying she did not appreciate the missing feathers .

Dang Dog!:boxing:

I hate it when that happens! They'll be back!

Dodge - This is taken from the IL regulations Digest from the Late winter Antlerless Deer and Special CWD Deer Season Information.

Question # 6: Can I firearm deer hunt and archery hunt at

the same time during the Late-Winter Antlerless Firearm

Deer Season or the Special CWD Firearm Deer Season or

use a bow to fill a firearm deer permit?

Answer: No, the law specifically states that archery hunters

cannot be in possession of a firearm while archery deer or

turkey hunting. You cannot legally possess a bow and

firearm at the same time while deer hunting regardless of

what permits you have and what seasons are open.
