Ever call to other hunters??

Once a while back I was bored and along came this guy walking about 2-300 yds away from me stopping/calling/walking etc. etc. So I thought it would be fun to answer him. When He stopped and called I waited until he started walking and I called. He'd freeze, look around and call again. Every time he started walking I'd repeat. It was the funniest thing I had ever done. LOL. That was really fun!

I know, I know it's not something that should be done, not safe and all. But when it's late season and the birds shut up it gets pert darn boring out there. And the guy was a long way off too.

Re: Ever call to other hunters??

every year it seems like, last year i had a blast messing with this one guy, he was just a yelping and i admit, i thought he was a hen, but then i soon realized he was a person, he kept calling, i kept replying, lol...then i stumped him, i started to get aggressive with him,lol......he was walking aro0und in circles looking for me, well the hen.i walked out of the woods a lil later, asked him if he saw anything and he said no , but he was talking to a hot hen, lol......i didnt have the heart to tell him it was me, lol...

i wouldnt suggest anyone doing what i did,or what any of us did....even though i knew 100% he didnt know where i was,i shouldnt of done it, but i was weak, lol... people do shoot at sounds and the littlest of movements, so be careful out there...and dont do it..

Re: Ever call to other hunters??

No....But the bird I got last year was called away from another guy who was on the other side of the birds. ADKhunter did the majic on the birds and called them right past me.....and away from the other guy who was trying his best.

We saw him come into the field.....he DROVE HIS TRUCK TO WITHIN 300-400yds WITH THE LIGHTS ON!!!!

And we saw him get closer while it was dark because he used a flashlight....I'm happy he did wink.gif

IMO i believe if your calling another hunters turkey or seeing another hunter in an area close to you then it's time to seek another place to hunt less crowded..

I believe it's first come first serve especially on public land. wink.gif

But then again your are right.

Re: Ever call to other hunters??

I had one guy stalk my "flock" of decoys, and when he was about ready to blast my bird, I yelled out to him....I ended up sitting him down next to me (really old guy) and bringing him in his first ever turkey.....he was 71 years young, and happy as heck......I also had a guy that I know was tresspassing on the neighbors woods calling "better" than me, so I let him call, and call, and call....and the gobbler on my wall hung up, right in front of my blind......I thanked the guy all morning for that one..lol.......he didnt find humor in it, but a year later he met me in a restaurant and told me he wont be hunting the same week I do anymore...lol....he got confused on property lines, and straightened it all out.......be safe gang, talk in human form if your being stalked by another hunter, we had a guy shot in the face last year during season, and he is still really messed up.......it only takes one pellet to kill us................al

Re: Ever call to other hunters??

Never did it on purpose and never will but I have been messed up by some other hunters trying to sneak in on my setup. smirk.gif

One of them was real lucky. About 10 years ago I was showing a rookie the ropes and we had 2 gobblers come in right out of range. For maybe a minute my buddy was aiming at them (safety off) waiting for the shot opportunity when they suddenly moved off. He lowered his gun (safety off now) and wispered "what happened". A minute or 2 later he wispers "there's one" and raises his gun. He saw movement and I saw just the top of a hunters head with his facemask pulled down easing up the side of the ridge we're on. I hollered "don't shoot" and ran to this idiot and chewed him out letting him know just how close he came to an accident. Now this was on private land where this particular hunter was supposed to hunting an area about a mile away from where we were. We divide our club into zones during turkey season for safety purposes. This guy was deep in the zone we were signed out for. Needless to say he was history after that season.

Re: Ever call to other hunters??

I was at school today practicing my mouth call and heard a gobble and couldn't figure out where it could be comeing from (The school is in the middle of town). One of the kids told me that someone on the next block had a pet tom. I guess it was him. My first gobble ever! It was pretty neat.
