Re: How old do you think? I would say probably 2 1/2. His body is pretty slim and antlers thin and there appears to be a separation from the neck and shoulders. A 3 year old in my area would have the neck flow smothly into the shoulders with no definate line of separation. Just my opinion. Wigs

I would guess around 4 great size to her. She may still be carrying fawns too so that makes it tougher. But if she's not carrying fawns, because most around here have dropped them by now, she is a great doe to have around. Nice and healthy and very large. Wigs

Good Tip, Also when doing your scouting, try and be as scent free as possible, and try to disturb and few deer as you can. This is more essential later in the year but I apply this to all of my scouting. Great Tip JimT keep them coming! ! Wigs

I agree. Also calling bucks all through the season works. Not just the rut. Many times different bucks are in different moods or different states of mind. So at any given time you may just have that big one show up. Always be ready. Wigs

Re: What now? Confused i would still try and find a place in the bottom or near the bottom and call very little very softly. This is the area they obviously want to be and you should be there first. Very early well before daylight. Wigs

Re: Broken Beard? I saw a bird 3 years ago that had about a 9-10 inch beard in the winter with a big ol snow ball hanging from it about the size of a baseball. That spring I shot a 22 lb gobler in the same area that only had a 4 1/2 inch beard. I am pretty sure it was the same. I am sure they break off from the snow and Ice in my area. Wigs

No I wouldn't call. Just sit and listen If you just have to maybe give an owl hoot or two, but don't over do it. Let us know how it goes, I am going out too just to listen. Wigs

Re: Scouting.. I usually start as soon as the snow is melted. I went sunday, and found 4 dead deer. I don't know if they died from the weather or from predetors, or hunters, but they were dead and the coyotes had a good time with them. At least they didn't go to waist. Wigs

Re: Take the kid? I know how you feel, When my 5 year old wants me to take him, I just take him and figure on not getting anything that day. That way I am not dissapointed. And on occassion very happy when we do get lucky. Deffinately take him once or twice, you can make a blind out of a downed tree top and set in there nicely without to much risk of being spotted. Well my answer to your first question is still no. If I had no license I wouldn't shoot the deer. The only time I knowingly break the law is when I am on my way to an emergency ambulance call in my own vehicle. Then I do go 5-10 mph over the speed limit. I still obey all trafic signals and stop signs. If trying to help save a life isn't worth a few mph oh well. I will take the speeding ticket then. Wigs

Re: How early do you clear lanes? we cut ours last fall, then just touched the up a bit in june. I hunt from the ground also, but it is in some of the nastiest stuff you can find, but I have always taken good deer, and see few hunters. wigs
