  1. Re: Amazing Iowa Hunt.......PICS! ohiobucks: You are right on. These guys are shooting what "should" be shot, not the smaller ones. All the small bucks out there still "CARRY THE SAME GENES AS THESE LARGER ONES THAT WERE KILLED". If it ain't outside the ears or above 140" let it grow. just my thoughts. the dog
  2. Re: Amazing Iowa Hunt.......PICS! Just a little history. I live in the county next to Allamakee. Allamakee has more Boone and Crocket bucks taken in the last 20 years then any other county in the United States (including Buffalo County, Wisconsin). The bluffs along the Mississippi and the croplands allow these bucks to grow very big, very fast. At the Iowa Deer Show, most every year Allamakee has the biggest typical and non-typical, or they are very close to the top. Rumors are flying around about a big buck that was taken this year in Allamakee County that may push the record. Unconfirmed rumors of course. Other information; you can "PARTY HUNT" in Iowa. That means that you can shoot as many deer as you want, just as long as a person in your party has a tag to put on it. Concerning the taking of does; you can buy doe tags over the counter for $25. I usually buy at least one extra doe tag. The second tag is $11, I believe. I am sure that they harvested a few doe. I don't believe that they dented the buck population in that county all that bad. Why, every year that county produces many buck just like that and it doesn't look like it's going to stop. It would be amazing if the all came from a 1/2 mile area. Good luck to all the dog
  3. Re: Looking to buy a muzzelloader, any suggestions? Hi I bought a Knight about 7-8 years ago. At that time Knight was the leader in the industry. I like my Knight, however, I would seriously consider other brands TODAY. Stainless steel as Stan suggested. A lot easier to clean and maintain. Plastic stock. No need for wood as it just gets scrathed. Mine has a "thumbhole grip" and I love it. I would seriously consider handling one of this type to see how it feels. I would, these days, consider a muzzleloader that has "interchangable" barrels. My old Knight only has one barrel, therefore, is only good for one week of the year. I believe that the "ENCORE" line has these options. Last, I have seen the muzzleloaders that "break" and then lock with the primer concealed. I really like that idea of keeping the prime safe and dry. No special capper needed to prime your gun. Make sure the breach plug comes out so that you can clean it from both ends. I believe that all new muzzleloaders are like this. good luck the dog.

  11. Re: GPS accuracy Hi DJR! "GPS are garbage". I hope you never go grouse or sharptail hunting in the Sandhills of Nebraska or hunt the Fort Pierre National Grasslands in foggy weather. If you try either of these WITHOUT a GPS, you will never find you way back to your truck. the dog

  13. Re: Five Hunters Shot Dead in Woods bigbuckmiddaugh: I "respectfully" disagree with you 100%!!! There are people in our society who are not "right in the mind", this is one such individual. First off anyone who goes into the woods to hunt deer with an "sks", as reported, is not a HUNTER ! Anyone who would fire upon other hunters is not a hunter. [NOTE: it remains to be seen who shot first and what the entire story is]. Are we to group all Postal workers in to the same class (catagory) just because there have been a rash of postal employee shootings in the past??? Are we to group all Basketball players into the same group because of the unbelievable acts of some Indiana pacers? Are we to judge all Car drivers the same because one individual is late for work and cuts you off? There are millions of us "hunters" who respect the law and abide by it in every way possible. "There goes gun hunting" was your statement. I sure hope that "others" do not judge us "hunters" by one isolated incident or the actions of ONE individual and condem gun ALL gun hunters, you seem to do. Just my thoughts the dog
