  1. I said it once and I'll say it again, If you don't want the hide, it don't matter what caliber or grain bullet you use. A dead dog is a dead dog. You may try a larger grain bullet like a 150gr or even a 180gr. The larger grain bullets are designed for larger game. When a larger grain bullet hits an animal the size of a coyote it doesn't have time to expand like it would hitting larger animals. You won't get much pelt damage. But if you want to use a smaller grain bullet I would use the 100gr PSP. Don't waste your money on the Accelerators.
  2. Re: Tried calling-no luck? You would have to get the mouthpiece off to adjust the reed. Some mouthpiece are glued on, you may not be able to. If you can get it off you have to push out the wedge on top of the reed just to losen the reed. Slide the reed up or down to adjust it and slide it back in. "Don't wedge is back in to tight you may have to readjust it again"
  3. There are all kinds of decoys on the market, but the one I use now is the Predator Supreme Decoy the coyotes can't keep there eyes off of it. To suggest some calls, I need to know what type are you looking for. Mouth blown calls or e-callers.
  4. Re: Tried calling-no luck? I don't really care for closed reed howlers. It takes a lot to get one to sound right. You may need to readjust the reed to make it sound good. To me closed reed howlers work fine for making turkeys shock-gobble, but I just don't care for them calling coyotes. Try to readjust the reed and see how it sounds.
  5. Re: im hooked!!!!! [ QUOTE ] after about 5 mins i was looking around when i saw what looked like a fence post but it was in an odd spot. i took my eyes off of it to get the binos and when i looked up again it was gone. [/ QUOTE ] That go's to show you how well they blend in, and how well they can pick out the smallest amount of movement. Once you reach your calling stand, look over the area really well, that way you can detect anything different and pick it out. Good luck.
  6. Re: Took my first coyote by Calling - WOW! Congrats. I know I was hooked when I called in my first one.

  8. Re: Question for the coyote experts Mating season is just around the corner. It sounds like they are marking there territory. Coyote's use urine as a calling card and territory markers.

  10. Re: I didn\'t miss this time. I changed my mind. I don't really have a place to put a mount the size of a lunging bobcat, so I think I am going to have it mounted like this.

  12. Re: I didn\'t miss this time. [ QUOTE ] Nice kitty! looks like a really nice hide. SO whats teh story? [/ QUOTE ] It's not much of a story, but here it go's. I set up at the edge of an open field next to an old logging road. I had been calling for about 10 minutes when I look over to my right at the old logging road and saw the cat just about to walk into the tree line. I turned to get ready for a shot, I started making a kissing sound to get the cat to stop. When she stopped to look, I put her down. [ QUOTE ] beautiful--are you going to mount her? [/ QUOTE ] She is at the Taxidermist right now. I'm going to have her mounted in a position were she is lunging at a quail like this one.
  13. But 2 more seconds and I wouldn't have even seen her.
  14. Re: How early [ QUOTE ] hey william----you can make some loud shrills with a turkey mouth call----it just sounds like some creature in distress. i use it by pressing my tongue hard on the call and forcing a small amount of air---practice with it and you can get it to sound like a rabbit squeal---works in a pinch! [/ QUOTE ] Good one dogdoc. Now why didn't I think of that. You can also make coyote Ki-Yi's and howls with it also.
  15. Re: any strategy or suggestion Most likely your only going to get a shot at one, but you never know. Stay in the stand for another 30 minutes after the shot, you may get one to come back out in another location, so keep an eye out.
  16. Re: 1 for 6 Congrats. 1 is better than none.
  17. Re: How early Try puting it out about 2 to 3 hours before dark. If you put it out to early the buzzards will usually get it before the coyotes do. If your going to hunt over a bait pile don't use the calls. If you had a howler that would be a better choice to make it sound like the coyotes are at the bait howling and fight over it.
  18. Re: gun of choice for varmits My main varmint rifles is a Rem Model 700 ADL in .22-250 and a Bushmaster Varminter Rifle AR-15 in .223

  20. Re: im not nuts!!!!!!!! I don't know why they would think it is crazy to have coyotes in Delaware. Coyotes are in every state except Hawaii.
  21. Re: Different regions of the country There's not really any deferent's in calling or setup. When calling to a coyote, your are tring to sound like an animal that is pain and dying. A coyote knows that it would be an easy meal. A cottontail distress sound may work better in a area than a Jack rabbit distress sound would, but a mile down the road the Jack rabbit distress may work better. But you don't want to limit yourself to just rabbit sounds. Your going to use different distress sounds where ever your hunt. On your setup your going to use trees, bushes or even a hill side to help break up your outline. Your also going to use the wind and the terrain to give you the advantage to see them before they bust you.
