Re: 4TH Day
Dang, I had all the info there when I posted, don't know what happened to it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Up at 3:30 this morning so I could hit the road by 4AM, of course it didn't work out due to coffee doing what it does so got out at 4:10. I didn't have any traffic to worry about plus the few traffic lights I had to go through were only blinking at that time of morning so I made it to my spot about 4:50 and as I was grabbing my gear I heard the first gobble of the morning. I walked down the trail and waited for more gobbling, it didn't take long to come only problem was one bird was roosted right over the spot I wanted to set up my blind so I went to the edge of the woods across from him and set up. I started to hear other birds gobble, then more and more I have no idea how many were over the ridge big boys and some jakes thrown in, but not one hen yelp. I gave a few soft yelps on a Perfection glass call and the birds went nuts, I then waited until fly down and the first bird gobbling came to the edge of the field and gobbled and gobbled and gobbled some more between strutting in the midde of the trail about 80 yards away, I'm sorry I left the video camera home. A few of the other birds were gobbling over the hill but not one of them came up to the field, then they shut up and I only had the one bird to play with. He got tired of waiting for the hen to come to him so he headed down the trail still gobbling and strutting, I got out my HS Strut metal pot call and he came in a little closer but he was now over 100 yards away, we went back and forth for 20 minutes without him moving an inch, I then stuck a diaphram call in my mouth and cut like **** plus shook a gobbler shaker call. That was it, here he comes, strutting some and walking some, when he came around in front of me I dropped the hammer on him and he started flopping. I have no idea where the other turkeys went to but I'll be back to the same area tomorrow. This bird weighted 20lbs 4ozs, both spurs measured 15/16 of an inch and a nine and a half inch beard.
