Re: Team 16 congrats on a nice looking deer. I didn't see anything within range. I did see one deer chasing another one for about 15 minutes, but I couldn't tell what they were. My hunting partner took an 18" 8 pointer. I'll be back at it on Thursday.

Re: Summit Tree Stands I own 3 Summit climbers and I love em. Light, strong, comfortable, safe and quite. You can't beat em. I'll never buy a different stand.

Re: Team 16 Ok everybody - tomorrow is the day. Where I am hunting it is suppose to be about a low of 20 - possibly a low in the teens and a high in the mid 40's. It should be a pretty good day. I can't wait. I start my vacaction on the 9th and it runs all the way to the 26th so I will be able to get in a ton of hunting. Good luck everyone and lets put some points (no pun) on the board!

Re: Team 16 Way to go everyone! I am having a terrible bow season. I will turn it up during M/L season though. Again - great job everyone.

Re: Sunday Hunting I think that it should be legal. I remember when I was a kid, my grandfather would bring me out on Sunday afternoons after church. It was some of my best memories. Just because it's legal does not mean that you have to hunt. I would just like to have the choice.

Re: the can I have called in several does with the can and last year I called my biggest buck in with it. This 9 pointer was walking a ridge away from me and I grunted -nothing. I tickled my rattle bag -nothing. I hit the can 3 times and he stopped, turned and came right to me. I am a believer.

Re: Team 16 Nothing this weekend. I did have a 7 pointer that was about 20 yards from me, but it's not what I'm looking for and also the shot wasn't the best available. Since I've never shot a deer with the bow I decided to not take the shot. Going out again Friday though.

Re: Team 16 That sounds pretty promising. I went a little on Monday and I am going to try to head our for a couple of hours Saturday morning. On Monday I didn't see a thing except about 50 squirrels! Hopefully Saturday will be better.

Well today was opening day of bow season with terrible conditions - high winds and pouring rain. I told my son that I wasn't going bow hunting and if he felt like it we could try to go squirrel hunting. He was so excited. He came in my room at 6 and woke me up this morning and I could hear the rain outside. He asked me if we were going and feeling guilty because I am always so busy I told him if he wanted to we could go. A second later he said that I better get up then. We go out to the farm and get in the woods and about 15 minutes later I spot a squirrel. He asked me if I wanted him to shoot it and I said no we are just here to get wet. He thought that I was serious. I told him to fire away. He did a great job. He ended up killing two plus we had 3 does about 30 yards from us and one came within 25 yards. I couldn't believe how excited he was. I tell you what - this little hunt made my year and that's no joke. Just to see how excited he was was when he shot those squirrels was worth the whole trip. I can't wait till our next hunt. [image][/image]

Re: Team 16 Anyone do anything? I put my stand in today vice tomorrow. I took my oldest boy squirrel hunting and ended up watching 3 does for awhile. One came about 25 yards from us, my son couldn't believe what he was seeing - plus he shot two squirrels! After I saw those deer, I ran back to my truck and got my stand. I placed it about 20 yards from a major crossing over a barbed wire fence. We'll see how it goes Monday.

Re: Welcome Back AJ I should check in more often - AJ I didn't know that you relocated. Is it permanent? Wish you all the best, and thanks for inviting me on that hunt a few years back. Good luck!

Re: What to do????? [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What would you all do? [/ QUOTE ] Pray and ask God for some direction. [/ QUOTE ] I total agree with this but it also can't hurt to go through the interview and see what happens with that first. [/ QUOTE ] That's true, but I have never been one to wait. I have been making the pros and cons list. Someone said earlier that there is soccer there - if there is I haven't seen any of the schools that have the facilities for soccer. Of course that doesn't mean that it's not there. Money is pretty much I suppose the only issue, and money isn't the only thing. It's nice to talk this through with other people, to get different perspectives. Thanks everyone!

Re: Muggs is not the guy we all thought he was.... [ QUOTE ] I can understand rooting against the Steelers, but even a die hard Browns fan can not be seen in one of these.... [/ QUOTE ] Is it just me or does that look like a Bengals jersey?

Re: What to do????? [ QUOTE ] Re-reading your post I have to be upfront with you, please don't take this wrong as I may have read into it but it sounds like you want to move for reasons that appeal to you and relatives but may not appeal to your wife and children. If so, moving might be a mistake at this time. Just my $.02 [/ QUOTE ] I didn't take it the wrong way believe me. Actually though it is just the opposite, my wife would like to jump up and move, but I am trying to weigh all the pros and cons to the move. Sure I would love to get back to be closer to my remaining family, but I am concerned for the opportunities that my children will have the most. Yes if it was just me I would leave in a minute, but I have 3 other people that are counting on me and I am being torn with the decisions that I will have to make in the near future. Maybe I am putting the horse in front of the cart, but I have to start to consider all my possibilities. Thanks for the input everyone.

Sometime ago I posted a topic that discussed me on moving back to my home state - Tennessee. I decided to wait until a federal government job opened and I would apply. Well I have done all that and I have finally received a phone call from the FBI in Memphis for an interview. Now granted, it's just a phone interview, but it go me to thinking. Should I go or not. God has blessed me and my family in more ways then I could ever imagine while I have been in Virginia, but Virginia is not home. Our entire families live back in Tennessee. This makes it hard since the grandparents do not get to see the grandchildren except a couple of times a year. My wife is finally make decent money working two part time jobs that she truely enjoys, and both of my sons play soccer and are pretty darn good at it. I am also getting a raise in the near future. If I go to Tennessee I will be losing my raise, my wife's salary, my boys will be uprooted from their friends (although they are ages 12 and 6), but if I go I will be closer to family and childhood friends that I haven't seen in years. I don't know what to do. I need some advice. I know that money is not everything - that is until you don't have any. I know that my boys will make new friends and are at an age that they will have an easier time to adjust, but we will be closer to our families and friends. Do we really want to start over when we have worked so hard to get where we are at? What would you all do?

Re: Leaves are changing colours! That is just down right beautiful! Thanks for the pics. I'll be thinking about them when I am fighting this I-95 traffic on the way home this evening.

Re: Team 16 Well - I just found out that I will NOT be permitted to hunt the opening morning of bow season. Both of my kids have soccer games and my wife has to be at work at 10 AM. I would go, but my hunting area is about an hour away and I would have to be home around 9:30 AM in order for my wife to get to work. I will have to wait until Monday the 9th before I can get out.
