SOrry it is taking so long! He gave his memory card or stick- whatever you call it- to one of his co-workers who was to give it back to him today on a CD. I saw pics of it and it is a beautiful rack. THe tops are huge and palmated. Was a huge body too! THey estimate well over 400 lbs. I hope to have the CD and post pics on Friday!

Thanks Junky- I know there is a mandatory drying time. I think he just wants to get all the info, so when it is dry, he can immediately contact a scorer and have it scored! Thanks PT- after I posted this, I checked their site. I didn;t see anything there. But I may have just missed it. WIll check again. THanks! Perry P.S. We're in the process of getting the pics onto disc so we can post them. WIll post them ASAP!

Thanks for the suggestion, Leo. I'll give him that info! Then will get it posted here ASAP.

My buddy shot a certain to be record book Caribou in N.Quebec last week. A real MONSTER. He had it "rough" scored up there at 413"!!!! Now he wants to have it scored by an official B&C scorer. JUst wondering how to find out where the closest person is to Northern New Jersey/NE pa. or SE new York? And what the proper procedures would be. Any help would be greatly appreciate!~

GOt more of the story this morning. He said last Tues. the outfitters heard that Wed. 9/12 there were to be protests and such at the main airport in Shcefferville. My buddy's group were the last ones to make it out of the airport to the float plane base to fly to camp. They were told by the outfitter to hunt hard Wed. and to take the first animal they see, that they may have to come in and pick everyone up later Wed. Thankfully, that did not happen. But, no new hunters were coming into Schefferville by turbo prop. They were diverting as many planes as they could to another town hundreds of miles away towards Labrador, to board float planes and then fly into the private float plane base in Schefferville. THere, they had to change planes and then fly out to the camps. Big headaches! This other town/airport evidently is much smaller, so many hunts are being cancelled. They cannot possibly get all the folks out to the camps. The lucky ones are making it. My buddy said they had no problems getting out of SChefferville at the end of their hunt (on the turbo prop), but getting in is a different story! Everyone is upset..........outfitters are having to spending thousands of dollars trying to get their clients to their camps and losing much more on cancelled hunts. And they can;t get supplies from the airport..........they are basically holed up at the private floatplane base rationing food, feul and supplies! Man, this is bad. BUt they must be keeping things real quiet. It appears there is little information getting back to the hotel at Montreal! Lots of people wondering what 's going on! Has anybody else heard anything???!!!

I kneww you guys were gonna say that! Unfortunately, we're pretty much in the dark ages when it comes to technology! he just got a Digital camera, but doesn;t have the cable to download the pics. Will try to get it ASAP. I don;t have a digital camera myself. Gonna go over and take a few pics with my cell phone.......but that won;t help you guys! I promise, as soon as we can get pics posted. we will!

My buddy just called. Just crossed the border back into US from Montreal. He was Caribou hunting in N. Quebec and shot a monster Bull!!!!!! He had it green/rough scored up there: 413"~!!!!!! Was told it was the biggest rack to come into Schefferville this season. He has a real story. Seems the natives are uprising up there.Claim all the hunters/outfitters are changing the caribou migration. (See SCHEFFERVILLE UNDER SIEGE topic on Canadian Outdoorsman forum. He says they were lucky to make it out of schefferville to hunt.....all flights leaving schefferville are cancelled until further notice(go out TO the camps). Well, with all the problems they had, he feels blessed to take such an animal. He has it on tape swimming across the lake in front of him, shaking off, raking the bushes and then coming in to surrender! WAY TO GO ROD!!!!!!!!!

ANybody hear what's goin' on up there? Just got off the phone with my buddy who got back today from a Caribou hunt in N.Quebec. He said Schefferville is basically shut down to outfitters/hunters trying to get to camp. he said the Natives are putting on a big uprising, saying that all the outfitters/hunters are changing the migration. My buddy said he was in the last group of hunters that were able to fly from Schefferville to camp last week. He said many hunts are cancelled and the outfitters are trying to scramble to fly some guys to camps from a different town/base(forget the name). But supposedly this town is hundreds of miles east of SChefferville towards Labrador. He said he was out for 9 days at camp and they had many problems with food, supplies, oil and such. THey had to ration. He said they all tagged out, and he was blessed to shoot a RECORD book bull. But was kind of overshaddowed by all the problems they had. He said when they got back on the bus flying back in to Schefferville there were natives and cops all over the place,. His bus even got boarded by several natives looking at meat boxes and racks. He says it's a real ZOo up there!

Has anyone seen this tool or used it before? Just saw it in the new Cabela's archery catalog and it looks very ingenious! Just wondered if it worked as well as it looks. In case you haven't seen it, it is a plastic t-handled tool with 4 little "fingers" at the end that you insert into the anus and it catches on the membrane as you twist it. Then you pull it out and the anal canal comes out with it, just tie off and cut. That's how they describe it's use.

Gonna try this in a few weeks................hopefully! A friend I met thru our state bowhunting org. offered to show a few of us how it is done. He has all the tools and the 4 of us split the cost of the raw materials. ALl we have to do now is find the time to get together to start our bows. He is going to walk us thru it every step of the way. Can;t wait to get started!

I agree with Buckee on Ted's language. I don;t agree with how he communicates his view, but I almost always agree 100% with his view! he is again.............right on!!!!! I love his term "GOOD GUY" GUN FREE ZONE.....................and his point that those who believe that banning guns in certain areas will prevent the bad guys from bringing them in, are simply in DENIAL!!!!! It's just common sense!!!!!!!!

Anybody see this guy on Meet the Press Yesterday?(or was it the McGlaughlin group?) The guy worked for MSNBC and was trying to say that CHo used an "automatic weapon" in the VT killings. He stated that if Cho had not been able to "SPRAY bullets- if he had had to pull the trigger each time he fired"(and I am using his exact words), that he wouldn;t have been able to kill as many kids! Obviously, this guy does not know anything about handguns! I could not believe this guy was so mis-informed! How could someone on National TV who is arguing gun control NOT know the difference between a semi-automatic handgun and a fully automatic weapon?! This guy looked like a real bozo, spewing his anti-gun rhetoric, when he didn't have a clue about what he was talking about! Thankfully, Pat Buchanon WAS informed and really let this guy have it!

Need help on a DO it yourself Moose hunt in Alaska
Rut-Nut replied to Rut-Nut's topic in Big Game & Exotics
Re: Need help on a DO it yourself Moose hunt in Alaska Thanks Ron! Good to hear from ya! Glad you and your Dad are doing well! Tell him I said "hi"! ANd thanks for the help- I'll let Rod know. Season was bitter-sweet.....................managaed to shoot 2 doe on the same day in late Oct, but also messed up on a buck that very day. After shooting the first doe, I had a buck come in to 40y and stop right on the trail the doe came in. Unfortunately, the cell phone was not on vibrate and my buddy called me spooking the buck. After looking for his deer for a few hours, I got back in the stand and shot another doe just before dark. First time I ever shot 2 doe on the same day wiht the bow! Luckily it was cold enough to leave the first one lay after tagging and gutting it. And luckily I had help to drag them both out! Then in Nov. things never really materialized..............No rutting activity! Never did see a buck in Nov! P.S. I finally got my Caribou back from the taxidermist. I told him to take his time so I would have more time to save up. It looks great up in our loft! Not the biggest, but I had him freeze-dry the velvet on the rack and it looks great- and it brings back all the memories of that great trip! How was your season? -

Re: Police encounter with hunter leads to ............ [ QUOTE ] Lots of good responses here, and I'm glad there wasn't too much cop bashing either. I have alot of friends that are in law enforcement, and they deserve ALOT of respect. Sure..there are some bad cops, but my hat is off to the law enforcement (and firefighters, armed forces). Just think where we would be without them! [/ QUOTE ] I agree Steve! I have the utmost respect for most in law enforcement. It is one of those thankless jobs. Like anything, there are bad apples. The vast majority are decent human beings, though!

Re: Police encounter with hunter leads to ............ [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What is he going to do, shoot me because I refused to drop my bow from 30 feet? [/ QUOTE ] Add more charges.... [/ QUOTE ] SO BE IT! My best friend just happens to be a LAWYER and a BOWHUNTER! [/ QUOTE ] Never heard that one before.. Maybe you are actually his best friend! [/ QUOTE ] LOL Swamphunter! Believe it or not, he is even HONEST! (I know, kind of an oxymoron) We were in college together and he was best man at my wedding. Over the years he has offered many times to represent me(free of charge) if I ever needed it. Hopefully, I will never need it!

Re: Police encounter with hunter leads to ............ [ QUOTE ] Id NEVER drop my bow..officer or not..I'll lower it down.. shoot me if ya dont like it! [/ QUOTE ] i'M WITH oNEIDAMAN! No way I am dropping my bow! I would tell him i am slowly going to remove my arrow and then slowly lower it to the ground. Then place the arrow back in the quiver and lower the bow. What is he going to do, shoot me because I refused to drop my bow from 30 feet? I'm not going to give the cop any chance of saying I threw it at him or some such nonsense like that! I have 2 state policemen in my family and generally side with them. But in this case this cop was out of line! As you say, probably a City Boy with no knowlege of hunting and no common sense!
