  1. Yesterday I hunted slug gun on a army base for deer management, does only. Well wouldnt you guess it, all I kept seeing all day long were huge bucks. Heres the cool part... I was walking back up the edge of a field and a doe came crusing by with a big boy maybe 5 paces behind her (around 130 class) Doe was running too fast I was only able to scope the buck about 50 yards away but of course couldnt shoot at it. They disappeared in the brush so I decided to walk across the field to the woods they just came out of. While standing out in the middle of a wide open field out pop two deer and they start running really hard right at me, looking at me the whole time. I put the gun up incase they are does but of course wouldnt you know it two (150 class or better) bucks. They got to about 30 yards then stopped and looked. I could not really believe this was really happening. I put the gun down watched them for a little and eventually (about 30 seconds later) they realized I wasnt a doe and ran back into the woods after giving me a nice snort. Only thing I can guess is that these two bucks thought I was a doe or something, because they are rutting around here. This is the first time I have ever had deer purposely running out to greet me in a wide open field, usually they are going the other way , wouldnt you know it with my luck though that they would both be over 150. It will defintely be a memory that I'm sure will never fade out of my mind. Just thought I'd share.
  2. Re: Finally got my first deer!!!!! Congrats on the first deer, awesome looking buck. Way to go
  3. Well its been a long season so far here in PA for me so I decided to take this doe yesterday 11-13 at 2:00Pm. It wasnt the biggest doe Ive ever seen but will be good eating. The pic isnt the greatest either but I figured you guys wouldnt mind. , http://photobucket.com/albums/v487/Charman003/Deer/
  4. Re: PA Buck Pics I agree it had to be shot in one of the special reg areas if shot with a cross bow. He originally said it came form a 10 acre wood lot. Its amazing how these little lots in PA always carry huge bucks like this. I just dont think they get much pressure and are tough to shoot when there in the back yard. I have an area about 3 miles from where I live that has huge bucks, its a development thats built up in the mountain. Only time these boys get killed is when the get hit by someones car. The landowners wont let you hunt their "pets" its a shame... Oh by the way Nice freakin buk
  5. Re: Gett\'n ready for next season! Go try out a hoyt you wont have to waste your time trying other brands In all seriousness though pick a bow thats fits you best. Some of the new hoyts have a smaller grip and others dont. Its little things like this that makes the bow more comfortable to fit the individual. Dont just try brands try different models of the brands if you can. I'd defintely give hoyt, mathews, pse, etc a look
  6. I'm coming down this spring anyone know what a non resident license will run me? Hunting for some turkeys, whats you spring bag limit on gobblers? Thanks for any help

    Which Expandable

Re: Which Expandable Spitfires, Spitfires and Spitfires... they are awesome
  13. Re: I tested mechanicals and don\'t like them I agree that I think everyone opened you just didnt know it. Next time take a 4 inch thick styrofoam target and place a peice of paper on the back side of it. After your shot the blades will be closed on your broadhead but inspect the paper and you will clearly see all the blades opened. Mechanicals really do work, its all in the head of some people.
  14. Re: My buddys 151\" bow kill How do you go about hunting in fort knox? Do you have to apply and then they give you a few days to hunt and they cart you in? I hunt a military installation around here and thats how it works, just wondering how it works for fort knox. How big are the zones/areas you hunt in?
  15. I typically use a climber but for some private areas I hunt I want to hang a hang on stand. What are some good ones to consider? Summit looks like they make some good ones and the new loggy hang ons look good as well. Which ones are the safest and most reliable and work good for you? Also what do you use for climbing steps to get into your stand? Appreciate any help, i'm new to the whole hang on thing.
  16. Re: Primo\'s Bleat Can Ive tried it a few times this year with no luck, thanks for the reassurance though, I'll keep on flipping it over
  17. Re: Big Buck question I access my stand from the back side opposite the field and I have to cross a wide stream to get in. So I can definitely sneak in. Its a few mile drive the get over to the field from where I park due to the roads.
  18. Re: Big Buck question So you think he was on the move before it got dark, he just didnt get out to me yet? That sounds like a good idea, what do you think about catching him coming back in the morning? What time do the deer usually leave the fields and go back into the woods?
  19. Well i hunted a spot tonight roughly 80 yards from a field. I left the woods at 6:50 tonight, got to my car drove back around to the the opening of the field. Its now 7:10 and to my surprise heres this big guy standing on the edge of the field with nice rack and a 6 or so inch drop tine (public land to). My question...I left the woods and it was completely dark 6:50, 20 minutes later this guy is 80 yards from my stand out in the edge of the field and I know he came from back where my stand was cause its a small maybe 30 acre wood lot. This is the first time Ive seen this guy and he has to be moving after dark. Do you think my best shot to get him would be early morning, I'm guessing he has to walk around sometime, and I know he came out of this 30 acre lot, he had to, theres not much else around. It was very wet tonight I know I didnt spook him, and my guess is he'll probaly run around the fields all night. Do bucks usually come back in the same place they went out of or is it possible they wander from spot to spot? Appreciate any help.. i really want to tag this big boy.
  20. Re: Biggest Trophy..!? I shot a decent 8 point last year with my bow in my 3rd year of deer hunting. It was my 2nd buck ever taken. I was 22 years old. Here he is
  21. Re: Buck down!! Congrats, seems like these PA bucks are starting to come around, lets see them pics
  22. Re: How far will bucks travel at night? Another thing I didnt mention is that i spotted him only about an hour and half past dark, and I know for a fact he wouldnt have moved until last light, or a little past last light. I think I'm going to sit back in this wood strip tomorrow evening from and edge and see if deer are in here, then possibly set up for the kill if i see something. Mathews4life LoL. Atleast you know he is still in the area. These deer are tough to pattern sometimes, it takes a little luck to be at the right spot at the right time.
  23. Well I spotlighted last night and to my surprise there were alot of bucks running around in the fields. One was a big 8 or 10 point no more then a mile from my house, and I do not live in the country. Do you think this deer could be living in small patches of woods along a not so remote creek and houses near by? Or do you think this buck taveled 3/4 a mile from the mountain through plenty of fields and crossed the creek to get to these other fields. I have heard bucks travel great distances at night and I think these buks were out last night cruising for does? Any chance he might be bedding up in the small patches of woods, or up in the mtns? thanks for any input
  24. Re: Got my fall Turkey... Great bird, and I definitely like the bow to. Is that a magnatec or the MT sport. Good job
