Very true. The problem with Michigan is we have a unbalanced buck to doe ratio. You can take two bucks anywhere in the state but there are many areas where you can not get a doe permit. The area I hunt in the U.P. has AR's in place but no doe permits. I like the AR's but you have to keep the herd balanced and thats one of the reasons Michigan fails in their management practices, in my opinion.
I would say right around 90-100 lbs (dressed) is avg. for Michigan. Its funny I hear alot of guys up hear say they shot a 150# doe. I just laugh because that is very uncommon around here. Unless you put it on the scale, you dont know. Alot of people think they are heavier than they really are.
If the state went to a one buck rule, you would see a major improvement. I try to stick to atleast 6 point or better but if it gets to late season and I have nothing in the freezer, I shoot what I can.
Went out after work and seen a couple does, this one came into 30 yards. My arrow hit its mark and she only went 50 yards. The DNR aged her at 3.5 which I thought was older than I thought. She weighed 93#s when I dropped her off at the butcher.
I have yet to see a deer!!!!! Went out yesterday only to find a 14 year old kid with a metal detector at the bottom of the tree I was hunting in. Its still early yet. Good luck everybody
