Re: Honorable mentions Yeah I like that one too. I chose the hawk over that one last year because the hawk was in the air about to land, the eagle is just standing there.... decisions decisions....

Planted a quaker boy food plot mix last year and looks like the only thing that made through the winter is the clover. Turkeys still like it though. I remember those three outsmarted me everyday last season.

Re: Photo Camera Discussion and Questions. Great pictures everyone! Billkay, I'd hate to have your job of choosing the winners, there is not one photo in either category that doesn't deserve a prize. I'm very impressed with all the still camera photos this year.

Re: Still Camera Entries Going home after an unsuccessful drive..

I chose the one with the bats because it was the most unique out of all my pictures. I've never seen any pictures, mine or anyone else's like it. It was hard not to use some of these pictures but I've seen other people's pictures that were similar to these so I had to go with the bats and doe picture. Do you think I made the right choice?

Re: Decent Eight Point 07-24-05 Lol I guess I didn't see the time stamped in giant green lettering.

Re: Decent Eight Point 07-24-05 nice series of pictures. What was the delay set at?

Re: Game Camera Entries Doe surrounded by bats I like how she's watching as the one bat almost runs into her. HERE is a link to a higher resolution picture.

Re: camera? SLR is just the term for the cameras professionals use. Like the canon digital Rebel SLR and such. The S1 IS isn't an SLR but it's pretty close. You can take nice professional photos like an SLR but it can still easliy take quick shots when you're not being a perfectionist. Lol, I'm talking like I own the camera, that's how much I've been looking at it. Just don't have any money.

We're in the middle of a very bad drought so I put the camera on what's left of this pond. It's the only water source around right now. The card filled up(76 pictures) in 2 days. Lots of does and fawns and I got about 10 pictures with these bats in them. The deer must disturb the water and stir up the mosquitos. I don't think the bat triggered this first one because it was on double picture mode so a deer probably triggered the first picture 10 seconds ago. How many can you see? I see 6: Is this a moth or another bat? I get a lot of moth pictures so it could just be a moth but it wasn in the middle of all the bat pictures so I don't know.

I've been having pretty bad luck as far as pictures this summer. I set up my cams in bad spots where they blow in the wind and get false pictures, Then the times it did work, it would sit for 2 weeks with just a handful of does and fawns, and the last buck pic I got was in june. So anyway I was bringing the camera back from the woods to put in a new spot and right on the driveway of our farm, next to the road and a bunch of buildings was this doe. I took a picture of her quick because I figured she would run away. Then I took this picture: (Wish I didn't have such a weird look on my face in both these pictures ) It didn't run away so I backed up the 4 wheeler for a closer pic: And then as I was driving away it ran away, must have had a fawn close by. I'm afraid she is gonna get hit by a car because she's always in the corn next to the road and today I saw her just standing on the road like she's waiting for a car to hit her.

Re: Do you really enjoy those huntin shows???? I used to like the Drury's a lot. Their advertising wasn't as bad as some. They just showed that they use it and where it, then there were commercials. Now all the shows are "Biologic is best, we hate you if you don't use scent lok, we'll burn down your house if you don't like the Wildlife eye...." Well maybe not that extreme but they need to stop talking about their wildlife eye. What I hate more than the ads is the unprofessional film makers. All the staged scenes, and then walking up to a bloated deer and trying to reinact the excitement of just shooting it. After they shoot something, their comments and reactions seem so forced. Even with the advertising Drury is still one of my favorite. Along with Realtree, Eastman's and Primos. Just because they don't stage scenes, and you get real reactions out of all of those hunters.

Re: Who builds their own game cameras? I'm working on a d-380/snapshotsniper for a friend, it's costing me about $140. I'm also building a P41/snapshotsniper board for myself for about $250. There's always something you don't like in commercial cams - whether it's slow shutter speed, low quality pics, or just the set up in general. I like building the perfect cam for me at a fraction of the cost.

Re: camera? I've been looking at the canon S1 IS for a while. It's got a 10x zoom. Manual features like an SLR but still automatic. Kinda more than I need and more than I want to spend, but would be nice if someone would buy it for me.

Re: Anyone Using The New Digital Cuddeback 3.0 Yet What I don't like about the Cuddeback is the flash is so inconsistent. Some pictures will have a nice flash and they'll use that for advertising, but then the rest of the pictures will be like those - really dark with lines going through them. Also, I don't think 3mp will give you better quality because the lens the cuddeback uses takes 4-5 seconds to warm up for it to take a good quality picture. The cuddeback forces the picture to be taken in less than a second, so it's not warmed up or ready to take a picture, that's why you'll get lines in the pictures and grainy pictures. And they use a plastic lens inside the camera, you can't take good pictures through plastic. Just my .02, hope this helps.

Re: Question about Leaf River trailcam With that many batteries, how long do they last?
-
I have a chance to buy one of these. I'm taller and like the longer axle to axle but these bows look like they're meant more for competition than hunting. All they say is how fast it is, not how quiet or forgiving it is. Think it's worth it? I have an old PSE thunderbolt now. I've been a little hard on it and it's time for an upgrade any time now.

Re: Taking care of coons (poison) I wonder if woodchucks like DR. pepper more than Mt. Dew? We have a serious woodchuck problem, I should try that with them. I always put the mountain dew where we have coon problems, never thought about the woodchucks... Thanks Derek

I posted this recipe last year and a few people have asked about it again. Sorry guys I don't really visit the varmint forum that much. Just thought I would post so everyone can see it again. This stuff really works, it kill coons within 10 or 20 steps. I've even had some die with their face in the bowl. Last year, between this poison recipe, shooting them in our feed bunkers, and trapping them, we got about 50 coons. This year I've poisoned about 15 and we've shot about 10. The poison is real simple. Get a small dish - like a dog bowl or something, and you mix in one or two handfulls(don't actually use your hands though, it's some nasty stuff) of fly bait/poison(comes in pellet form) and 2 cans of mountain dew. The fly bait I use is Golden Malrin. Golden Malrin. I guess you can get it there, I just get it at farm and fleet or any other farm supply store. I said 1 or 2 handfulls but you might have to guess and check. If there is too much poison, they won't drink it and if there isn't enough, they might not die. Make sure you stir it up real well. Good Luck!

Re: I wanna get this right!!! I think you should read this thread before buying either cuddeback. Cuddeback problems Read what Papabob wrote. They promote faster shutter speed but the sensor they use in the cuddeback requires 4-5 seconds for it to take a quality picture.

Re: 2005 Turkey pics That's a great bird

I got 24 pictures of these ugly things, was kinda hoping for another hawk but oh, well. I'm kinda dissapointed with the quality, I used my photohunter with a plastic shutter window instead of one of my digitals. Some great pictures, just kinda cloudy. Do you think it's worth it to try it again with a digital? I've got plenty of dead raccoons.

Re: Making a game camera Well first you have to decide what camera and sensor board combo you want to use. I'm assuming you want to go digital(let me know if you want to make a film setup or a video setup) so the four most popular digital cameras people use are: Sony P41 4mp - this is what I use, very fast, one second trigger, flash is good, 2AA batteries take about 200 pictures, easy to modify - you don't have to solder to the actual camera. You can find these on E-bay for about $125 and up. Sony P32 3mp - same flash as p41, little bit slower - about 1.5 to 2 seconds, modified just as easy as the p41. Also on ebay for about $100 and up. Olympus d-380 2mp - This is can be modified for an instant trigger, or if you want longer battery life, trigger speed is about 3 seconds, easily modified by soldering, you can find them on ebay for $50 to $100. Olympus d-360L 1.3mp - The main advantage to this one is you don't have to open up the camera to modify it, you just plug it in to the board. I've never used one of these so I don't know much else about them. And HERE is a list of links and information about all the different sensor boards to choose from. I used the snapshot sniper board and would highly reccomend it, it comes with everything already soldered to it and is super easy to set up because it has an LCD screen that tells you what your settings are and there's just 2 buttons that you press to set it up. Ok so you got your camera, your board, now you need: A case - once you choose your camera and board, you need to figure out (or ask) what size case you need and you can get those at lots of places - casesforless.com, ebay, snapshotsniper.com, trailsendcams.com, there are a lot more. Some kind of connector to hook the board to the camera- stereo plug, servo connector, phone plug, etc. Glass to cover hole over shutter - you can get it at pixcontroller.com snapshotsniper.com trailsendcams.com, other places Glass or lens to cover hole over flash - most people use a flash enhancer that you can get at any of the previous places Fresnal lens - to cover hole over PIR sensor, can also get at any of the previous places Stand offs and mounting screws - to mount the board to the case Something to mount the case to the tree - most people used U bolts so they can use a python lock to lock the cam to the tree, I used a bungee mount from buyezweb.com Battery holder Motion kill switch - If you buy the snapshotsniper board, the battery holder and switch comes with it. I think that's a complete list of what you need, it'll a lot easier and clearer once you decide on a camera and sensor board, until then you don't really know exactly what you need. I bought everything on this list from Pixcontroller.com and snapshotsniper.com For detailed instructions on how to do this, go to pixcontroller.com, click on "manuals and camera modification" then find the camera you chose. Also, on the top of that page is a step by step camera building tutorial, click on "how to build a d-360L trail camera." Even if this isn't the camera you choose, the instructions are generic enough for all cameras, it's really easy to understand. Also keep in mind that there's not only one way to build one, I looked at a lot of other people's homemade cams and a lot of commercial cams and decided what I like best from each. Let me know if you have any questions, also there are a few other people on here that build their own cams, I know Gus does, I forgot who else. You can also try these forums: Jesses Hags real deal Those forums are where all the genius' that actually make these boards and figure out the modification hang out. They'll answer any question no matter how dumb or how hard. Good Luck, you won't regret it
