Re: Safety Harness Suggestions I knew I'd start something with this post. It's great to see the concern that has been mentioned. While I wouldn't get into a tree with out some sort of safety harness, I figured it was time to get a real one. I've used a double boline knot tied to a tree, with some mod's to hold me in the correct position. We used these for chair evacutations when I was on Ski Patrol back in the 80's. They work great, but a real harness would be better. I've pm'd one of the guys, so, I should have one soon. I havn't been able to get into the woods yet, as I've just moved. Another 1.5 weeks before i get out for the 1st time. Got to get me a doe in our earn-a-buck zones this year. Thanks

I'm looking for a safety harness. I've been ground hunting, but bought a used hang on. Any thing that i should look for in a safety harness? I've been watching E-bay, lots of different ones out there. I'm on a budget, but still need to be safe. - I was looking at some of the Gorilla's, Summit's, lone wolf. Thanks

I have 6 Carbon Express 300 Classic Hunters with the Buff Tuff Camo. 28.5" long, insert to string noc point. 3 have org. feather vanes, 3 have Blazer vanes. Used for light target practice for 2 years, I have upped my poundage and needed heavyer arrows. $45.00 + shipping and handling. PM me. Thanks

Re: Blazer Vanes Watch out for your rest clearance. I had a NAP 400, and couldn't get clearance. Even with rest interferance, I was getting nice groups out to 20yds. I switched back to 4" duravanes. I'm in the process of evaluating a different rest.

Re: Mount ? for a Trophy Taker on a Hoyt Magnatec? Thanks for the input, stepped over to Archery Talk, and also talked with a couple of shops, they say the short will work.
-
I'm thinking of switching my current drop away (NAP 400) for one of the Trophy Taker dropaway's. My question is, which mount is needed? Long or short, the long is 3", vs 2" on short. Has anyone put one of these on a 2002 Hoyt Magnatec? Thanks

Re: HEY WISCONSIN! ITS ALMOST TIME! Can't make it out this weekend due to other commitments, but the following. Got to get my earn-a-buck doe yet. Still, can't wait.

Re: ? on Arrow Spine (Carbon) Thanks for the input. I went out at lunch, bought 3 CX400's, going to fletch them up tonight, and try them out tommorrow. If they work, I'll get 3 more. I allready have a taker for my CX300 hutners. he shoots at 60#. I hadn't realized that I was on the edge, Can't wait for opener on the 16th. Got to shoot a doe as I'm in the Earn-A-Buck zones.

I've been shooting Carbon Express CX300 arrows for the last 2 years. I've never paper tuned, and this past week, a buddy introduced me to paper tuning. We tuned it in, but with Broadheads, I'm shooting 6" lower than the field points. It dosn't matter which broadhead, we tried 5 different ones. If I go to an alluminum arrow, they fly great, field points and broadheads are the same. With the carbons, I would get some indication on the paper that it just wasnt right, alum. was perfect. I'm shooting a Hoyt Magnatech, at 70#, with 30" arrows. If I were to go up to the CX400, would that take care of the problem? On CX websight, they have a calculator that indicates that I should be shooting an arrow for 80#'s, which in the 30" would put me into the CX400. I could go to alum, but would prefer the carbon. Any input? I was shooting Blazer vanes, grouped nice. If anybody is having problems with Blazers, check your rest to make sure you don't have fletch interferace. Even with my rest down, the fletch would stillhit. Had to put on a different rest. Thanks

Re: Wisconsin Bow- ? on for Fri 23rd I'll be up at 3:30am, in my tree before 6:00am. Now, which one to choose. I've got the perfect one on the edge of a creek, swamp, hardwoods. Just hope they are moving into this area. Hope it snows instead of rain, some fresh snow to cover old tracks, new ones show up. I can't wait.

I'm going out for the last time this year tommorrow. The forcast is mid 30's, freezing rain tonight into the am. I plan on an all day sit. We are just coming out of a deep freeze, so it will be warm compared to where we were temp. wise a couple of days ago. I'm going to be by a creek, unfroze, in some oaks surrounded by swamp. All corn and soybeans were picked early nov, and plowed under. Lots of swamp grass/browse/maybe some acorns left. any input? I plan on having some fun. I don't have any more time after tommorrow, so hopefully I'll get my chance. I did see one monster before gun season, hope he made it through. along with 2 forkies, and one maybe 8pt, to dark to tell. Sorry for the length, just excited to get back out in the woods.

For all you Wisconsin late season Bow hunters. I'm just trying to get some other opions. When does the 2nd rut pic up? I figure it should be around the 2nd week of dec. right in the middle of the 2nd T-zone hunt. I only have one more chance on getting out, and was wondering what most of you guys would think about the Dec. 3rd? It's only 1 week after the gun hunt, would the bucks be back into a normal, somewhat daylight routine? I'm hunting public, but it is hard to get into (swamp) I'm not sure as to how hard it was hunted during the gun season, but I do know of at least 2 nice bucks in it. this would be in Waushara county. Thanks for any thoughts.

I finally got a chance to hunt the rut. East Central Wisconsin. I wasn't able to hunt my normal spot, 1.5hrs north of where I live, but a buddy told me of a nice small chunk of public land that is bordered by a very nasty swamp. (Perfect place) I seen 3 bucks, 1 before shooting light, a forker around 10am, at 10:15, I saw the biggest buck of my life, 12+ point, I had to look away as I started shaking to much. he came in to about 30yds, I thought he would pass to my right, but I think a hot doe had come thru before I got in in the morning, in the swamp. he did a lip curl, did a 90* turn to the south, and walked off, freshened a scrap 45 yrds out, then off into the swamp. I walked over in the spot, and seen a 6"dia tree racked to pieces also. He was out past his ears, curled out infront of his nose, and had at least 12" tines. It would have been a perfect oppurtunity for rifle, but to much brush for bow. I guess that is the way it goes. I also seen an otter, 2 raccoon's, and to many tree rats to count, red's, grey's, fox, and chipmunks. It was an awsome day to be in the woods.

Re: North Central Wisconsin Rut? There is a large chunk of public north of antigo (10-15 miles) that I've been back in since 1995. I usually walk in about 2 miles, nice gated loging roads. there is usually some nice deer in if you can connect with them. I used to gun hunt it, but I switched over to bow last year. I don't get much time to hunt, work, kids, ect... anivesary during gun season (I know, don't say anything) So, bow works out much better. It just makes for a long drive up, have to leave at 3:15am to be in my spot by 6:00am. With out T-zone, this should be nice, as the buck's shouldn't be to spooked, and with a lower doe ratio, maybe they will be on the prowl a little more. Can't wait, just hope the weather is colder.

Anybody in the Antigo area seeing much Rut activity? I'm from Oshkosh area, I was out Tuesday, didn't see anything, but rubs and scrap's are out there. (temps were in the high 50's) I'm planning a day trip around the 11/11 time frame, and was wondering what the bucks are doing just north of Antigo. Thanks

Re: Close encounters? In the past, I have had 3 does come up and sniff my hand while gun hunting in Wis. No doe tags at the time. lots of fun.

Re: Hunting whitetails in South and North Carolina? thanks for the input.
-
I'm from Wisconsin, have hunted the last 20+ years up here. I'm considering a move down south, and was wondering what the whitetail hunting is like in the Carolina's? it would be bow and rifle. I realize that is a big ? to ask, as you have lowlands to the mountains. Also, what do you have to watch out for, snakes, spiders, ect.... Thanks for any info.

Re: Quarter Moon - No Deer I was out on 10/25-26. North of Antigo, wi., about 1.5 miles in. Monday all day, seen 5 on the drive up, only 1 doe when I was 1/2 way up the tree, and then on my way out, I heard one snort in the dark. It looked pretty exciting, Fresh scrapes and rubs, looked like the perfect day, if you consider all I really saw was tree rats and blue jays. It was a great day to be in the woods, yesterday, near Oshkosh, just a morning hunt, saw nothing, pretty windy.

Re: Wisconsin Bowhunters I won't be out this weekend, but Monday and tues. Can't wait. I've only been out once, that in an EAB zone, didn't see a thing. But next week, I'll be up north, This is my 1st bow season in about 17yrs, so it should be fun. Acording to the moon phase, prime chase = 10/25 - 11/3, breed window = 11/4-11/17.

Re: Bigfoot. A couple of years back, during our Wi. gun season, I was walking in about 2 miles, at about 4:30AM, when 2 does almost ran me over. They stopped at about 10ft and couldn't figure out what I was, The moon was out, with about 2" of snow on the ground. You can see pretty good that way. Another time, same genreal area, I was cutting through a clear cut, opening morning, no snow, and just about stepped on a big deer, I think it was a buck, but I could have reached out and touched it. That scared me pretty good. When you have bear, and wolves in the area, you kind of get the ebe-jebe's at times.
